Harry Potter book as a gift

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Sadly I gave away my Harry Potter books from when I was younger, and now want to get DS his first Harry Potter book.

There are so many variations out there and I'd really like an edition of the Philosopher's Stone that will excite a 7 year old. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

I'd either get the original versions or the Jim Kay illustrated ones.

My youngst enjoys these two

Minalima books are beautiful - they are interactive so you can pull out things like the mauraders map

Big illustrated books that are hardback are quite tricky to hold and read. So maybe a gift one to look at and enjoy the pictures in but a world of books second hand £3 paperback to read?

Someaddedsugar · 04/10/2024 22:27

Oh that sounds perfect @CCSS15! I think that's the one!

Love that idea too @fourelementary 😊

I second the MinaLima books. I'm not a Harry Potter fan but I was given The Secret Garden from there last Christmas. It's a beautiful book and one of my favourite gifts ever.

@Someaddedsugar my 6 almost 7 year old loves the Mina Lina ones! He bubble wraps it if we take it somewhere 🥰

Someaddedsugar · 04/10/2024 22:58

I think it's definitely the MinaLima version!

The MinaLima ones are stunning, but it might be worth noting that they haven't been commissioned to do anymore. So there'll only ever be books 1-3 available.

Oh no! We've been waiting for them all to be done so we can buy the box set

herbygarden · 05/10/2024 13:43

Oh no!!! We were waiting too but assumed they would have to do the later books in volumes as they would be too big!!

HaddyAbrams · 05/10/2024 13:53

From what I've seen there will be more illustrated, interactive books. But not MinaLima ones. So if (like me) things have to "match" we don't know yet what the next ones will look like.

My children grew up with Harry Potter and by the time the final books came out they were in their teens, or nearly, so old enough for them. I'd be very wary of reading the later books to a young child, tbh. The early ones are fine, though. How lovely to be starting that journey again with a little one new to it! Reading them together early on and then later the three of us fighting for possession of the newly delivered new book on the day of the publication - very happy memories.

The Goblet of Fire Interactive Illustrated Edition is up for an October pre order on Amazon. Looks lovely.
