That’s good news @Bimblesalong 🤞

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/10/2024 08:14

Morning all.

My heart was in my mouth this morning when I woke up and read my weather forecast

Apparently the BBC weather site is having data issues!

My real forecast is bad enough. It had rained for 3 days solid and its currently only 3 degrees.

Wonderful news @Bimblesalong !

The Today programme just covered the weather app glitch. Apparently forecasting hurricane force winds in central London!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 10/10/2024 09:14

@Bimblesalong pleased to hear your news.

@Confusedmeanderings your paintings are lovely and so very autumnal.

we’ve driven 800km in the last 15 hours from Denmark down through Germany (had a very uninspiring but at least clean stopover in a motel on the A9 near Leipzig). 2 hours to go til we’re in the mountains in Austria. I’d love to say that I’ve been enjoying the changing landscape but it’s either been dark And
rainy or I’ve been working while DH drives. Looking forward to some mountains and maybe even a little snow! ❄️

@Bimblesalong I look at that insta account and absolutely love it. It totally smacks of Nigel. I love these muted colours and also hearing of Nigel's limed walls. However... I attacked my kitchen last night in a fit of frustration and pulled out every chipped plate, old mug and mismatched bowl. Then, before I could change my mind, I gave away my old coffee machine and box fulls of mis matched mugs (gladly received by NHS worker neighbours for their staff rooms) I have now gone crazy and ordered a load of Le Creuset Rainbow crockery as I couldn't decide what colour I preferred. I'm now going to order the bright yellow coffee machine I've been coveting for over a year.

It really is Not At All Nigel.

Oh wow, I absolutely love it!!!! 😍😍

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 10/10/2024 09:52

Great news @Bimblesalong !

@RainbowZebraWarrior I agree with @Taytocrisps the essence of Nigel is to have things that bring you joy rather than specifically to share his calming palette. I'm with you on the bright kitchen stuff that you bought Just Because. This is my stand mixer

@Bimblesalong I'm so glad to hear your good news! 🌻🌻🌻 Wishing you well in the next chapter.

@LillianGish gorgeous cake, and your dish is very pretty too.

@RainbowZebraWarrior lovely set of crockery; how apt! 🌈 And as others have said, it's really Quite Nigel in its own way. I've got some of their stoneware, all in the meringue colourway, and a set of mini cocottes in earthy colours. They make me smile every time I see or use them. I've done the don't-know-which-one-I-like-best-so-I'll-have-to-order-all-three (or five, or ten 😉) thing too, heh. Love the idea of a bright yellow coffee machine! That will definitely spark joy on a dark and gloomy morning! 🌻

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/10/2024 10:33

@ExquisiteIyDecorated I love that stand mixer! When I was in my 20s and worked in the city centre, I'd spend my lunch breaks in Fenwick broswing the kitchenalia. I wanted a red Kitchen Aid as Nigella had one, but then the pink, green, etc came out and I didnt know what to do! (I went with white in the end when i did evebtually buy one, aged 40) I don't know if anyone has ever watched the Pioneer Woman before, but she has a bespoke decorated one.

@DeckTheHallsAndBringYourBrolly I definiteky fall into the category of "I will have one of each" In many ways i can be so definite about what I like and want. In others im a dithering procrastinator.

@RudolphsDashing I think DD will definitely pick her 'colour' and I will use all the rest of the colours myself gleefully pick mine. I also noticed that they did a pet bowl, but i resisted.

@Bimblesalong I'm so pleased that your operation has been a success. Best of luck for the treatment phase.

Bimblesalong · 10/10/2024 10:34

Loving the full lecreuset rainbow. My son has picked up a few pieces from Matalan of all places and they’re great to drink from.

Bimblesalong · 10/10/2024 10:35

My artisan is cream and currently in a non working state🙄. The official mend price is £179 so I’m contemplating getting a new one - mine is well used and over 20 years old.

I got my Le Creuset teapot from Matalan for £12. Couldn't believe my luck that day!

Settling down for half an hours peace to watch Jamie's new show now. (I do like Jamie) Have to go back to school to pick DD up early as she fell on Tuesday night and dislocated her ankle (she has EDS like me)
Poor girl was lying in a puddle and cars were just driving past her. Kept her off yesterday, but she's gone in for a few hours today and tomorrow wearing a boot. Thankfully we see her specialist on Tuesday.

2 of my Dad's tests have come back clear, but he still has to have a CT, so fingers crossed for that.

Bimblesalong · 10/10/2024 10:46

Glad to hear 2 tests are clear. Fingers very crossed for the ct. your poor daughter is really going through it. Hope the specialist can offer decent support.

Oh crikey. Mine is just coming up to 14 years old. Maybe I should think about starting a savings plan now for a new one 🤔

DeckTheHallsAndBringYourBrolly · 10/10/2024 11:15

@ExquisiteIyDecorated that deep red is my favourite for mixers! Ours is a reasonably priced Chinese dupe (we don't bake that much so couldn't justify a pricey one) and black to match our kettle.

@RainbowZebraWarrior I love the Pioneer Woman and I think, IIRC, that she has more than one bespoke mixer now. 😍😍

Your poor DD. I think it's very sad that we're becoming much less of a trust-based society. Hope she's ok! Good to hear that your Dad's tests are clear, 🤞for the rest.

On Le Creuset pet bowl...might make a good Yuletide gift for said pet(s)! <ENABLER>

@Greaterthanthesumoftheparts wishing for ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ for you!

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 10/10/2024 11:42

If you look closely my mixer is a Lakeland dupe not an actual Kitchen Aid but it was half the price and I'm not a very heavy user of it (have cut down on baking on weight grounds, sadly). Pretty well everything else in our kitchen is blue or white, blue is my favourite colour, but I just loved this and it didn't come in blue.

@RainbowZebraWarrior 🤞for your dad

DeckTheHallsAndBringYourBrolly · 10/10/2024 12:08

I did notice it was Lakeland but I'm pretty sure ours is cheaper again by half. It works really well though and is sufficient for our needs. DH is an engineer and loves problem-solving/careful research, so he's good at finding cheaper versions that aren't crappy! We removed the rather garish logo to make it a bit more naice-looking.😁😁

TheOnlyMrsW · 10/10/2024 12:19

@Bimblesalong that is good news, hopefully you will have a little time to build your strength up for the chemo - it took a lot out of mum at the time.
Another one loving @RainbowZebraWarrior's rainbow crockery, I think we're due an update as our current set was a wedding present (11 years at the end of this month) and we no longer have 8 of anything! Good news about your dad's tests and fingers crossed for the last one. Poor DD, I can't believe that someone didn't stop to help her 😢.
I've always wanted a kitchenaid because they're so gorgeous but as I don't bake it would be a very expensive ornament!

DeckTheHallsAndBringYourBrolly · 10/10/2024 12:26

@Confusedmeanderings that's beautiful! And quite fitting for an autumnal thread.

@Bimblesalong good news, congratulations. Here’s hoping that the next chapter is ok.

Confusedmeanderings · 10/10/2024 15:56

@Bimblesalong that's great news about your operation.

@RainbowZebraWarrior also great news about your Dad. Hopefully the CT scan will also be clear.

@ExquisiteIyDecorated I love your stand mixer! I started my first teaching post 4 weeks after I got married. I went out and spent a big chunk of my first wage packet on a Kenwood Chef. I had a choice of white or white! 🤣 39 years later (crikey 😲) it's still going strong - just had a change of bowl.

One of the things I was doing whilst rushing around was buying more stock for my antiques business. I've acquired this little 19th century beauty and I love it! It's only about 6 inches high, not nearly as big as it looks, and it has a frosted oil lamp shade which you cant see in the picture. I think it will be finding it's way into my sitting room and living there until it gets sold and I'll find some lovely wax melts for it.

@Bimblesalong that's great news from the hospital 👍🥳

IngenTing · 10/10/2024 16:54

@Greaterthanthesumoftheparts you should drive to Norway instead, we have the snow!
My autumn is officially over, snow started falling early this morning and it builds quickly. My husband was saying this afternoon that this is it now until early June.
I love the snow. I feel like I'm holding my breath until it comes, then it's here and it's like a huge relief! Everything looks, sounds and smells different.

I thought I'd share some pictures from around our tiny cabin this afternoon.

Ah great news on the medical fronts for those concerned. Keeping fingers crossed for continuing positive results x

Cold day here today and I've been up since 3am when dh got up to use the bathroom and woke the puppy up. When I took him out the sky was the oddest palest pink and it was very windy. I wondered if it was some sort of knock on effect of the hurricane perhaps. Back to normal and dead calm when we got up properly at 7.

I'm about to make some sort of Persian chicken dish that I saw on facebook of all places. It calls for a lot of spices but also pomegranate juice and seeds so it could be a disaster or very lovely. We shall see!

piscofrisco · 10/10/2024 17:19

I'm extremely jealous of that snow @IngenTing . I lived in Canada for two years and I absolutely loved the proper snow we got there. (Though we never had it this early). We didn't get as much as one frost last year in Hertfordshire just relentless rain, grey and mud. Absolutely rubbish.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 10/10/2024 17:24

So no snow here but lots of yellow and red trees on the mountains. @IngenTing very jealous of all your snow. We often go to Hafjell for new year as DMIL has a ski chalet there, but DH has to work between Christmas and new year this year so we won’t make it. I shall miss it, it’s beautiful and very cosy. I don’t ski much so I am usually found in the window seat with my knitting.
