Waitrose Christmas slots rolling out from today

gillybean2 · 25/09/2024 08:25

Got a mail shot last week saying I could book for Christmas from today because I spend too much with them, and have just managed to book my slot for Monday 23rd.
Not sure when they’re rolling out to everyone so keep a look out for the Christmas option when you go to book a slot if you’re wanting one.

I've been a weekly shopper for over 10 years and had priority in the pandemic and I've not heard anything!
Not happy here in Hampshire 😡

NoLongerATeacher · 30/09/2024 20:09

I’m in Hampshire and I booked my slot earlier today - 8am Xmas eve - Turkey Crown

Well done, maybe I'll strike lucky at midnight!

OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard · 30/09/2024 20:37

I've decided not to bother as it appears that I'm not getting priority this time. I've been a weekly delivery customer for the last 4 years, and like others I got a slot on 26th Sept last year and similar in years before, but there we are.

I usually use Waitrose for main shop and Ocado for bits and pieces, so fortunately I did manage to get an Ocado slot for evening of 23rd and will use that instead. I can't be bothered anymore with hanging around at midnight and watching the site wobble with traffic.

In all fairness, this thread has reminded me that there are vulnerable customers who need the slots a lot more than I do anyway. Hope everyone gets what they need.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 30/09/2024 20:40

Same. (But in the North East of England) I'm actually amazed that there hasn't been anything in the news about this. (Well, nothing pops up on Twitter, anyway)

It may seem like a First World Problem, but not when you're disabled.

That was meant for @Howyoualldoworkme

RainbowZebraWarrior · 30/09/2024 20:46

@OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard I'm tempted to abandon, too. We don't have Ocado here unfortunately, but I will be booking my Mum's Sainsbury's slot soon. She's a delivery pass holder, so I'm hoping she will get priority as usual. Failing that, I might use the local butcher or one of the online Scottish butchers.

Thank you for understanding. It does maybe sound a bit trivial but we don't have transport and my husband has limited mobility.
You get very little for Waitrose loyalty and it seems this is just another thing gone 🙄

I'm bloody livid about this, now.

I asked the Waitrose delivery driver on Saturday and he played the "don't ask me, I just drive the van" card. Apparently I was the third person to ask him that day. Some of whom had relatives in other parts of the country who have been booked up since 25th. I was tempted to say to him that officially he was an actual Partner, but I'd have felt like a total bitch. It's just that nobody seems to be taking responsibility.

I've selected a couple of things from the Christmas food to order and it's sitting there just waiting for the slot to open up. I usually wouldn't mind what day or time, but this year it has to be Christmas Eve which is making it more stressful.

In all fairness, he is only the driver. He would have no more knowledge of the ins and outs of their web store than a school cleaner would of the GCSE maths curriculum.

I know. That's why I said I didn't say anything as it would have made me look like a dick.

According to the bored and unsympathetic-sounding Customer Disservices man I spoke to, Waitrose no longer give their vulnerable customers the priority they did in the pandemic. He said any priority is restricted to the completely housebound and to get priority now you have to write a snail mail letter to Head Office. Obviously this won't help us in time this year but - for those who still want to give Waitrose your business after this - it might help in future.

WarmWaterSwimmer · 01/10/2024 12:10

Needless to say, still no access to Christmas slots for us here. It's hard not to get the impression that Waitrose HQ don't care about their loyal, more vulnerable customers and perhaps don't even really want us as customers any longer.

AdoraBell · 02/10/2024 00:07

Finally got one.

DuckDuckGoosieGander · 02/10/2024 01:20

Thanks. I didn't realise they we're out - duh - and just booked for Christmas Eve

Arafon · 02/10/2024 04:55

I just woke up, then just suddenly thought Waitrose Christmas slot, leapt out of bed and there are loads, but we do have a big Waitrose, got early Christmas Eve so can still pop out if anything missing

I got one for lunchtime on the 22nd at just gone midnight. Nothing left on the 23rd which is the date that I usually have and have had for the last 10 years 🙄
I hope the dates aren't too short.
I also noted the site said "Only 2 Christmas slots per person. Please think of others"
TWO SLOTS??
We spend on average £100 and over every week so goodness knows what the threshold is!
Thanks for listening to me whinge, early night tonight!!

GettingStuffed · 02/10/2024 19:59

We got a Christmas eve delivery today. Mind you we live in a town where the average age is over 70

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 02/10/2024 20:21

I've just gone to book my slot, went through everything and they wanted me to approve the whole amount! My shopping will have changed by then so why would I earmark 200 quid today. I've never had to do that, usually it's £0.00 to check the card.

Sainsbury's isn't out yet and as I do one big shop a month a delivery pass isn't worth it so I won't get early access there.

I have an Ocado slot but again they went so quickly, I only got 22nd and I still don't know my December pay date.

Saucery · 02/10/2024 20:26

@Howyoualldoworkme I’ve usually got one on the 21st/22nd click and collect and the dates have been good, lasting well over the Christmas period.
@xxSideshowAuntSallyxx I’ve never had a slot held for £0.00. It’s £40 minimum, isn’t it?

MarmaladeJars · 02/10/2024 20:27

I could only get 21st 😭

OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard · 02/10/2024 20:33

@CatsNotKids - We spend in the same range as you, so evidently it's Nae Pavarotti for the Poveratti this year, as they say in Glesga. Ocado are at least upfront about prioritising customers who pay for a Smart Pass. Oh well, there we are.

It doesn't matter what you put in the basket, the money isn't taken until the day of delivery. As you know you can chop and change right up to the night before.
I chuck in a couple of bottles of spirits just to reach the £40 threshold quickly as a place holder and I don't even drink 😁
