It find it a dull, grey, boring and quiet week. Nothing going on, No more one has any money left, pubs/restaurants are closed/close early as no one is going out (until NYE that is). I looked at going on holiday for this week, but the cost was too much.

What does everyone else do ?

Games, reading, panto, walks, drinks and food.

I love that week. I love not remembering what day it is and just the general happiness

Cobblersorchard · 18/09/2024 10:09

As little as sodding possible! I love it, it’s a blissful time slip where noone knows what day it is and there’s no pressure.

We usually go to the theatre one day but otherwise we just mooch about watching TV, eating chocolate for breakfast and generally just pleasing ourselves. DD plays with all her new things and it doesn’t matter what time we get up or go to bed. I prefer it to Christmas itself in some ways.

SingingSands · 18/09/2024 10:16

Watch telly, eat cheese.

Lyricallie · 18/09/2024 10:21

Travelling back up to my home after visiting family. Visiting friends. Hogmanay is a big deal up here so organising a party/attending one. Otherwise chilling, dog walks, board games, tasty Christmas snacks!

Elbone · 18/09/2024 10:22

If it’s dry, we go to Scarborough for one of the days. It’s one of my favourite things to do. A dry crisp day by the sea. We fly kites, the kids go up and down the promenade on their scooters if it’s not busy, we have fish and chips and hot teapots of tea and then ice creams. The arcades are open too.
Also, consider the pantomime.

VillageFete · 18/09/2024 10:23

Winter walks, loads of lovely food and red wine, panto, extended family meal, board games etc…

shellyleppard · 18/09/2024 10:23

Try and tidy the house ready for new year eve.....watch some TV, read a book. Weather is usually bleughh so indoors lol

WhitegreeNcandle · 18/09/2024 10:23

Work! I’m a farmer so we do the minimum amount possible but still have to work

OhshutupBarry · 18/09/2024 10:23

Work - Nurse. What I wouldn't give to have all of Xmas off. Only 13 years until retirement!

Lemonade2011 · 18/09/2024 10:24

Work too, makes the time go faster then enjoy some days off then it’s my birthday first week of Jan I couldn’t be bothered having the full 2 weeks off it’s cold and no one really wants to do much once Christmas is over so I take my birthday off instead

oustedbymymate · 18/09/2024 10:25

Choosingmiddleschool · 18/09/2024 10:26

It’s my favourite bit!
Panto
Light show
Walk
Maybe take the kids swimming
watching TV and playing with toys in PJs
Have a long bath and read a new book
No rushing around in the mornings.

TeenToTwenties · 18/09/2024 10:26

See family.
Eat purpose created left overs so I don't need to shop or cook much.
Relax.

OhshutupBarry · 18/09/2024 10:26

DH and have made a pact to spend two weeks in Sri-Lanka each January. We have done it 2 winters in a row now and it gets me through the dark days.

MoodEnhancer · 18/09/2024 10:27

As little as possible. It might be my favourite week of the year…

PlantDoctor · 18/09/2024 10:29

It's a strange week. We usually have a visit from BIL and family that takes maybe 3 of the days. It's the only real "downtime" we get in the year so try not to overload the remaining days. We tend to go for country walks locally as long as it's not too rainy. We also see other family and friends.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 18/09/2024 10:29

Host family
Visit family
Go for walks
Play board games
Eat leftovers
Watch films whole eating chocolate

Autumnweddingguest · 18/09/2024 10:29

Read the books we got for Christmas, listen to the music we got for Christmas, DC (when little) build and play with the toys they got.

Usually a day into London to see a show. And a day going for a long frosty walk if it is fine - a proper hike.

I also love NY Resolutions - not as goals to immediately fail at, but more an annual bucket list, so I like to spend a few hours journalling about the past year - and making plans for the year ahead.

mitogoshigg · 18/09/2024 10:29

Go out see friends etc. all the restaurants and shops seem very open and busy here

mitogoshigg · 18/09/2024 10:30

But remember many of us actually work too

Autumnweddingguest · 18/09/2024 10:31

I forgot - I also work. I weirdly often have a fair bit of work on offer between Christmas and NY and it is a lovely quiet time to get it done. I'm freelance and get a lot of pleasure from earning enough to pay for Christmas in that dead-end final week of the year.

BrokenSushiLook · 18/09/2024 10:31

Mainly eat cheese, stay in pyjamas until 3pm (might go out for a little walk at that point). Play boardgames. Read all the new books I have been given. When we run out of christmas day leftovers, experiment with the new kitchen equipment I have been given.

angelcake20 · 18/09/2024 10:32

I used to work and loved it - much quieter than usual. I stopped work for a bit when the kids were older and found that period extremely boring. DH wasn't allowed to take leave at Christmas for many years but that's now changed so we've usually booked an Airbnb for a few days and had a city break. I'm a bit worried about this year as we're doing a Christmas market before Christmas so we'll be back to boring again. Thankfully kids are now pretty much grown so can entertain themselves.

PollyDactyl · 18/09/2024 10:35

We call it twixmas Blush terribly twee, I know.

Depends on how the days fall, if working then enjoying quieter week than normal. If not, then loafing around eating cheese/striding out purposefully on a circular walk/visiting or hosting rellies.

HotelCustody · 18/09/2024 10:36

Work 😆 many of us are working on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and everything inbetween.
