It find it a dull, grey, boring and quiet week. Nothing going on, No more one has any money left, pubs/restaurants are closed/close early as no one is going out (until NYE that is). I looked at going on holiday for this week, but the cost was too much.

What does everyone else do ?

I love Boxing Day.The family come and we have cold cuts ,salad fried potatoes All those lovely leftovers and nibbly bits we didn't start on.
Generally have a good tidy up
This year the dds are going to a wedding down south so we will have a few quiet days.
Maybe a walk along the coast and fish and chips

It's one of my favourite times of the year!
We eat our bodyweight in leftovers (I deliberately cook extra to keep us going for a few days)

The DC spend lots of time playing with new toys/reading new books etc

We always get a new family board game to play and there's usually a jigsaw out that we add to each time we pass it 😂

Also long walks, Christmas baking, hot chocolate station, movie afternoon etc.

Love it!

I work the week between , this year I hope to take off the 24th but otherwise I'll have the Wed/Thurs for Christmas Day and Boxing Day and I don't work Fridays. Then the weekend so it's nice few days. I;ll work the Monday and NYE then the 2nd .
My DC are adults still at home and DH is agile working .

I try to get some semblance of normality and get the laundry done before NYD as it;s unlucky to do it then.

I hope to spend time as a little family unit no where to be no where we need to go and nothing we need to do just games walks and rest. Lush.
And this year ranting about Gavin and Stacey no doubt 😆

Work. For those days I am pretty much back to normal. House cleaned up, tree and decorations away bar some lights that stay up. It’s the only time of the year that we have some ready meals for tea. I really look forward to 3/4 nights of not coming, prepping veg etc. I do have Friday 27th off this year though so a good few days break.

You put the Christmas tree away on Boxing Day? 🤔

I knew a man who would dismantle his Christmas tree on Christmas Day!

I have done in the past when the kids were really small.. now it's up until about the 29th/30th. Never longer than NYE

mamaduckbone · 26/09/2024 21:26

I love that week! Eat Christmas leftovers, play games, watch films, do a jigsaw, go for walks. Meet up with whichever half of the family we haven't spent Christmas with, which sometimes involves visiting the in-laws who live by the coast so that's nice for beach walks. I think it's probably the most relaxing week of the whole year for me - it feels like I have permission to do nothing because it's Christmas.

But having the pretty tree and lights at the darkest time of year is one of the nicest things about Christmas!

Vegetate on the sofa!

Crikeyalmighty · 27/09/2024 10:20

@SnapdragonToadflax when we lived in Copenhagen people had them up and on in January and February- as did the city with lights in the trees etc.!! Was lovely

mymumwouldntapprove · 27/09/2024 10:23

I go to work.

Ohtoberetired · 27/09/2024 10:35

I have my birthday during that week, so go out for lunch or have a takeaway on that day. Other than that I do as little as humanly possible, while finishing up the Christmas food.

Scleverley84 · 27/09/2024 10:48

Oh I find it so dull. cannot wait to get back to work!

Honeypickle · 27/09/2024 17:41

Rugby at Twickenham; Richmond Pantomine; Walks at Polsden Lacey and Wisley; Home for jigsaws and Christmas movies!

stargirl1701 · 27/09/2024 17:51

I celebrate Christmas.

It starts on Christmas Eve and goes to Twelfth Night. DH and I are both off work for the 2 weeks. It's the best time of the year!

We don't celebrate Christmas during Advent though. I think, if you do, you'll struggle to think of anything to do.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 27/09/2024 17:55

We have family visit and have lots of days out, pantomime visit, derby game at the football.

It's my my absolute favourite of year.

DillDanding · 27/09/2024 18:00

That’s my favourite week of the entire year. We eat, drink, have friends over, go to friends’ houses, do long walks and pub lunches, completely over-indulge so we’re completely ready for dry January - it’s heaven.

museumum · 27/09/2024 18:02

I love it. We usually see the other side of the family we weren’t with on Christmas Day , maybe siblings who went to their partners for Xmas. Sometimes friends who live away come here to visit their parents and we have a day out (beach or woods). A friend has a gathering at her house often. We do at least one big family cycle or walk and a pub lunch. Maybe go to a rugby game.

Amiokay · 27/09/2024 18:14

Work - it’s a great time to not use annual leave on because everyone else is off so it’s generally a nice time to catch up on things
