I also need to know this!

At 1, my kid liked Little People and stacking cups.

My almost-three year old has been playing with his Yoto when he got last Christmas all year and I suspect he will for several years to come.

Magnetic tiles went down well with my nephew aged 4.

That’s all I’ve got - watching for more suggestions!!

Little live pet Mama surprise guinea pig and hutch. Children are now 7 and 4 and have been playing with her for 2 years. The little live pet puppies they got the following Christmas are still very popular too.

Probably no help but my 5 year old loves Imaginext particularly Batman stuff, ninja turtles and currently some random little toys called Superthings which there appears to be thousands off.

Flossyts · 17/09/2024 18:18

Magnetic tiles. My 3 year old will play for literal hours. We take them with us when going to watch the other kids play sports along with some toy animals- all the other kids join in and play too!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/09/2024 18:22

Most loved and used: Scooter, balance bike, wooden train set, football goal, basketball hoop.

Lovely generous gifts which have never voluntarily been played with: Geotrax, Snap Circuits, Knex, anything educational.

bridesmaid1024 · 17/09/2024 18:22

Magnetic tiles
Leapfrog ice cream truck (both ages love this!)
Fisher price farm with the animals
Toni box (both ages for their various characters)

5 year old loved her micro scooter

We had the 12 piece Grimms rainbow, an off-brand version of the semicircles, the stacking boards and the grimms wooden blocks and they were played with consistently for easily 5 or 6 years, as bridges for trains/ houses for animals and people/ tower challenges etc. My youngest is 7 and they still come out every few months to be played with. We also have the Grapat Magos who stack and colour match to the rainbow as well.

My son is 9 and when his friends come over they all play with his bucket of Superzings (as they were known when he got them 5 years ago)

Whiteboard/chalkboard. I bought it for DD from IKEA when she was 2.5, she's now 10. Either she or DS(6) uses it pretty much every day! They don't really bother with the chalk side but the whiteboard is probably the most used toy in our house.

SkeletonBatsflyatnight · 17/09/2024 18:27

Teifoc was a big hit. It's basically mini bricks and cement that allows you to build things and then you can take it apart again. Think dc1 got his first set when he was 5.

Both mine love playmobil. We have loads of sets and they still get played with by both kids (9 & 6). Dc1 likes Asterix and dc2 loves their fairy sets.

Building blocks. We have some lovely Uncle Goose sets and dc2 wants Kapla for Christmas for more complex builds. They will both still happily build a "prompt" on rainy days in the holidays. We also have magnatiles which sometimes get incorporated as windows.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 17/09/2024 18:33

Lego and Duplo are by far the most used and loved toys in our house.
We have an enormous box of old Duplo (that was mine as a child) that is dragged out at least once a week by both the 5 and 7 year old and another box of Lego which is out most days.
Both DCs ask for Lego at every opportunity as once they built with it it'll be added to the box and used again and again.
The only exception is some of the big sets which my eldest does which I then have to find space to display around our house!

The best presents over the years were Lego, playmobil and sylvainian family stuff. It got played with endlessly.

When my dd was 3 I bought her a Princess scooter, she loved it so much 🥰

Its so unique to each child to be honest.

People always say things like lego or train sets/hotwheels and my kids have these things and have ZERO interest.

My oldest isn't creative (autistic) and preferred to watch things so a DVD player/tablet

My middle is hyper imaginative and likes play sets and figures with transforming/hidden/moving parts to create great fantasy worlds and adventures

My youngest loves drawing so just loves her Magnadoodle

LostMyRubySlippers · 17/09/2024 20:49

Mud kitchen had a lot of use
(plus I like stuff for the garden as no room in the house!!)

Helplessandheartbroke · 17/09/2024 20:52

Partywoo balloon launcher on amazon. Bought for a 5 and a 6 year old recently who were both obsessed with it and it's a tenner!!!

lotsofthingstolearn · 18/09/2024 06:06

In our house (2 boys) over the years for various ages the hits have been:

A wooden GLTC Car garage
Magformers
Superthings
Trampoline
Hoverboard
Tech Decks
Scooters- MGP ones from Skatehut
Every year without fail they get a £15 rc helicopter which is now tradition for them to spend most of the day playing with those
A RC moster truck
Galt marble run

The other ones elsewhere such as Brio, Playmobil (except Ghostbusters set), lego, hot wheels etc have been a bit of a flop here.

grafittiartist · 18/09/2024 06:16

Garden stuff like swings?

Hes 16 now and hard to buy for as he has no interest in anything really except the PS5 now. When he was young it was originally a portable DVD player that he took everywhere and then a kids tablet when they became a thin then finally the PS.

He opens present excitedly (likes the opening part) then basically never looks at any of it again like he forget it even exists.

Experience days are good for him, he likes vehicle based like driving different types of things more than 'material' things.

Random fun/silly fact books are usually a hit on the day itself (he will read out bits to everyone) but he rarely looks at them again afterwards. Things like 'the Darwin Awards' or 'worlds stupidest' books etc...

When he was younger he had a collection of teddies bears that covered his bed, build a bear was a good cross between experience and that.
