Morning all. What time would you say would be best to go into M&S on Christmas Eve to get reduced price CHristmas food (thinking turkey / dessert / veg etc)? I’m based in Somerset if that’s important 🙂

About 30 min before closing .. it’s a risk though! As long as you’re happy to eat anything, not necessarily your usual.

I went at 4pm last year and filled my freezer, it was a happy accident! There was Christmas food but not loads of it, it was all the other foods that were reduced like ready meals and meat. I had just popped in as happened to go past and fancied some marzipan balls.

I imagine they purposely engineer it so most of the large expensive items don’t go out of date on Christmas Day.

All turkeys I’ve seen are always dated 26 Dec.

My M&S is next to a Tesco, where you are almost certain of getting a turkey from one or the other a couple of hours before closing.

Perfect, thank you all! I’ve never left it to the last minute before, but just wondered if it was worth a risk 🙈 it’s just the bits of food to have between Christmas and new years, so not a terrible loss if there wasn’t much available. My friend went last year to a shop just before they closed and got the ready made veg pack / cocktail sausages and other bits for rock bottom prices, so it’s very tempting to see if I have the same luck 😂

My auntie used to go to Waitrose 30 mins before closing every Christmas Eve. They always got amazing bargains and always stuff for their Christmas dinner, but the key is being prepared to not have a traditional turkey dinner - it might be beef, pork etc if all the turkeys are gone!

Last year our supermarket took all the stock they were marking down out the back because the customers were being so vile.
(It didn't go to waste, staff bought it and the rest was donated) this was a premium supermarket! It was pretty disgusting how people were behaving.
