What do you all do to accommodate every one for a works Christmas do? Only 15 or so if us but some are Muslim so don't drink or gamble , need halal food etc. One is in a wheelchair and needs accessibility, one is grumpy and refuses everything. Just after some fresh ideas that I can put to everyone.

@SallyWD

I'm not buying into it. I too never experienced any non Christian objecting to a Christmas do.
In fact one of the biggest fans of Christmas was a part time Iman who observed prayers every day and dressed in traditional Indian dress, and whose lovely Pakistani wife sent on boxes of home made samosas for every festival going.

I don't have faith myself but my parents are practising Christians who find certain aspects of the over commercialised Christmas very difficult. No one thinks about people like them who may be offended

Indeed, I agree. I fought with my team to maintain the term "Christmas lunch" for our celebration. The Muslim colleagues were perfectly happy to have it called that but the white people were saying "We must call it festive lunch. We can't offended anyone". No one was offended!! And then Muslims get blamed because we don't use the word Christmas. So unfair. It should be called Christmas lunch for those who are Christian and for those who love Christmas regardless of faith or lack of faith.

@AllThePotatoesAreSinging

That's interesting about the wreaths, I didn't know that.
But I am also imagining the faces of the 20 somethings in the office if wreath making was suggested.
In fact the faces of most people under 70 apart from one or two avid crafters.
Afternoon tea would probably be acceptable if prosecco or champagne was involved but it's not really most people's idea of a Christmas celebration

We have a Christmas lunch and it’s called a Christmas lunch. We all go to the office which is in a lovely building and they get caterers in and we are treated to a really nice 3 course lunch with wine or soft drinks, in the afternoon we can all bugger off. Most of us bugger off to the pub next door but some choose to take the afternoon and go Christmas shopping but it’s really just lunch and then everyone can please themselves with an afternoon off.
Most people join in, everyone is invited but some choose to book it off as leave - their choice.

You're all correct, and I am scum. Thank you all for making it so clear 😂

I know what happened, I was there. I found it hard to believe initially but decided to set my own biases aside. Thanks for clarifying that I shouldn't have done that, but should actually have told the people who were upset that actually, there's no need for them to be upset, everyone likes Christmas so they ought to as well.

Now that I understand this, I have to question why the OP needs to ask, as clearly everyone will participate in anything, so it seems like a weird question. Just go to the pub & say "but everyone goes to the pub at Christmas".

Anyway, please feel free to tell me again what a scumbag I am, you are all clearly enjoying it!

I don't believe anyone is saying you're scum. I'm sure all mention of religion/cultural traditions are equally banned so as not to offend. I much prefer a secular society, so would be on board with that.

@LordEmsworth

No one has called you scum.
Ok I believe you, some people told you they were upset.
It's actually OK for people to be upset sometimes, if it's handled sensitively
I just don't accept that the feelings of one or two people should overide the cultural norm.
It does cut both ways. I had a total Christmas freak in my team. Every October he covered his desk with flashing lights, Christmas decorations and wore hideous jumpers with flashing lights.
And every Octobet he was told to take them down and be reminded of the person in the team who had migraines and the one who had epilepsy.
He was allowed discreet decorations from 1 December

Why do majorities always have to pander to a religious minority in this country. It's a Christmas party...all religions apart from Islam celebrate it. Just arrange the party...invite the workers and make reasonable allowances...but the endless second guessing about religious sensibilities is exhausting. A Christmas party in a majority christian country is part of the joys of integration...don't complain of being 'othered' if you 'other' yourself. Constant worries about giving offence is one of the ways killjoys ruin it for the rest of us.
