Ideas for 7 1/2 year old DD

DD is lovely but very hard to buy for (a shame for me as I like getting her Christmas presents). She loves Lego, Gravitrax, Snap Circuits, science kits and coding, as well as climbing things (trees, fences, bannisters, the climbing centre walls). But she doesn't really need any extra of any of those things.

She has no truck with Barbie, unicorns, or anything related to fashion etc (she fled when I tried to put Vaseline on her dry lips, so lip balm is not going to cut it), but she does love animals. However, again she has an abundance of soft toys and books about animals and nature (although I've seen a good book about scientists in Antarctica which I would like to get). Her favourite day dream is David Attenborough moving in next door.

Any ideas please? I have been pondering a coding pet of some sort, but not sure if I really want something which is quite tablet- based (I let her play a bit of Minecraft at weekends but I don't want too much screen time). She is active (hence the climbing, also likes ice skating and riding her bike) but not especially sporty.

She sounds very much like my 8yo dd. Has she got rollerskates? A 2 wheeled scooter? One of those kits where you hatch butterflies?

Is she arty? This is one of my DDs favourite things and she's made some incredible stuff with it:

Or what about a voucher for an experience? Go Ape or meeting an animal at the zoo?

Den building kits, potion making kits, skateboard, roller skates, microscope, telescope. Animal adoption or experience, horse riding lessons, falconry experience. Nice Lego sets. 3d puzzles. A decent science kit? Fossils and rocks? If she likes climbing would she like Go Ape/ Zip world type things or even other adventures sports like skiing, surfing type lessons? Theatre tickets or a day out? Clothes or bedroom things?

Does she write a list? I have a similar DD and she's written a list of ideas from a similar age because she wants very specific things.

Depending on where you are, an animal experience?
Trip to a animal rescue, or falconry?

Groovester · 10/07/2024 06:55

A pogo stick or a skateboard?
Sponsor an animal at a zoo?
Could you contact DA and ask for his autograph?
A bug hunting kit?
A trampoline?
A 3D pen?

An experience with your local climbing club / professional climbing wall.

I also got DD this book when she was around 10 so your DD might be a bit young.
But there is nothing wrong with a beautifully illustrated book!

I have a 7 yo DS but similar interests. I have just bought him a new inline scooter and a double ramp from Argos - the ramp is £16 down from £40. The scooter was a zinc one £15 in white or purple.

Double ramp

Annual pass to a local Zoo?

Heeleys?

A Pony Experience?

TheOGSloth · 10/07/2024 08:06

I am getting my almost 7 year old a Fahlo tracking bracelet - you can get loads of different animals and track them in the wild (I think they are a bit delayed for trafficking/poaching purposes).

User284732 · 10/07/2024 08:06

At this age, it's too early to plan what to buy, it's still half a year away and their interests can change. Just save for now, and wait and see what they ask for.

Fluffinghell · 10/07/2024 08:24

Riding lesson, might be fun if she likes animals and outdoors

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 10/07/2024 08:30

I’ve been meaning to get my animal obsessed dd a zoo keeper for the day experience. She would love that.

Is she interested in space? A telescope?

Ophy83 · 10/07/2024 12:43

An experience? Lots of zoos and safari parks do overnight stays in a range of accommodation e.g. Port Lympne. Or dinosnores at the natural history museum (though be warned, snoring dads asleep in the main hall make far more noise than any dinosaur!)

Thank you for the suggestions.@DancefloorAcrobatics that book is perfect! Her reading is very good, so I don't think it would necessarily be too hard for her.
