Wah!

They are so pretty.

But all good things come to an end.

I have slowly taken everything else down
Almost de-christmassed. Just the tree and lights left (tree decorations packed up this afternoon).

I know, it's so sad. And the evenings are still so dark.

We can't keep our tree up as it will soon just be a pile of pine needles on the carpet but we may keep our other lights up until Candlemas on 2nd February.

We took ours down the day before yesterday, I unpacked the usual mantlepiece decorations and was really disappointed with the change back.
Went out same afternoon to Dunelm and B&M to get a few more cordinating bits and dug out some butterfly fairy lights I remembered we had in the cupboard. Now we have lights under the mantle, a jar thingy with lights in and some big "votive" holder things with tea lights in (to hide that they are sometimes the battery ones!).
I'm just not ready to put the lights away - it's only just gone midwinter and the cold weather hasn't even started yet. Just this dismal rain. We need cheering up still!

Mine will stay up for the entirety of Twelfth Night. So switched off at bedtime tomorrow and I'll start actually taking them down on the 6th.

Wendysfriend · 04/01/2024 23:32

Yeah taking mine down tomorrow, the 12th night. Gonna really miss my fab tree and decorations. Youngest DD will be devastated.

Raera · 05/01/2024 19:35

Ours were packed away today after one of the best Christmas and New Year for ages. I waved at the loft hatch and said "Goodbye Christmas"
I reckon there might be another one along though!

frozendaisy · 05/01/2024 20:25

Ours all gone now, but can still smell the tree in the room, firmann fir I think, drops needles but smelt amazing.

Still reckon I will find small items that had gone walkies for a month or so but need to get small loft space in our room shut as it makes bedroom cold.

I’ll take ours down tomorrow. It’s only small so it doesn’t get in the way but I don’t want bad luck 🤷‍♀️😂

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 05/01/2024 20:33

I took mine down on NewYears Eve. I couldn’t wait to get them down & throw out all the cards cluttering up the place

IpanemaCaipirinha · 05/01/2024 20:36

I’ve packed away everything but the tree. It still has one more nights grace.

Norugratsatall · 05/01/2024 20:42

Yes took all my decs down today. Whilst it's nice to have less clutter, I miss the twinkling lights and that amazing smell!

rockstarshoes · 05/01/2024 20:50

I've kept my lights, put one set in a vase & draped the others set across the bifold doors!

Get myself through January! 😕

stargirl1701 · 05/01/2024 20:51

We're taking ours down tomorrow. Work beckons on Monday.

Mine is real and I really want to keep it until camdlemas. Currently hasn't dropped but beginning to look sad.

I don't want to take it down tomorrow

Funny how things change
I used to be a end of December de Christmas sort of person

This maybe the answer.

CrapBucket · 05/01/2024 20:55

Mines all coming down tomorrow, I might get some other lights though…

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 05/01/2024 20:58

Yes, I always really miss the cheerful sparkle of the Christmas tree. I’ll take it down tomorrow but like the idea of leaving mantel lights etc

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 05/01/2024 21:05

Tempted to leave some decs up until Candlemas.

I've done the outside though as the neighbours were all busily taking theirs down this afternoon.

Shame.

JingleSnowmanTree · 05/01/2024 21:07

I'm torn.

i LOVE the lights my tree & all my decorations (all gathered over the years & have sentimental value). They only seem to be out 5 minutes. Last year they were out until Candlemas then my birthday (mid feb) the thing that got them in the loft was wanting to get the Easter Pastels & friends out!!

LancashireSquirrel · 05/01/2024 21:08

Ours all came down today 😔

The house is so dark! I wish I could find some nice lighting but I can't find anything twinkly enough for the rest of the year.

Nanalisa60 · 05/01/2024 21:24

All my inside decorations are down and packed away, all done today, out side lights are still up as it was raining so on for the last time tonight, will pack them away tomorrow morning the 6th it looks like it’s going to be dry and sunny. I really missed the lights and decorations this evening . Don’t like January and February but off Skiing in four weeks so that something to look forward to.
