I just realised that the turkey is 6.8 kg as farm shop gave a bigger one than I thought. I put it in foil but had to really shove it in oven and the whole package is touching the sides. Is this bad? Don't see how air can circulate. or will it shrink when cooking??

Not great alright.

Can you take off legs / wings & cook separately?

You'll get it cooked - it's just your oven I'm worried about!

Take the legs and wings off and see if it's any better.

If not, then start hacking at it until it fits.

This, cook just as the crown, keep foil on.

Legs and wings can go in later or whatever!

Put the legs and wings in the freezer for another day, I find most people only eat breast meat anyway. It still looks turkey-like even when it's just the crown.

Just get rid of the foil , more hassle than it's worth except maybe the bony ends of the legs, wrap the ends up . Really, don't start hacking at the bird .

Thanks all. I've just left it in all its tented glory, and at least only touching sides not top. It smells like it's cooking. Presumably won't damage oven??? Not doing turkey next year!

Will cutting the legs off help, or maybe cut it down the middle and cook the halves in two different trays then skewer them back together when cooked if you want the whole Turkey look! Just make sure bits of wood skews aren’t served up.

We had this a couple years ago. Had to take a hammer to a goose to dismantle it so it would fit in the oven 😂
