GrrrrXmas AngryI really wanted to have a nice day too.

Went to sleep just after midnight as I was waiting for dd to get to sleep, then ds woke up at 2 and hasn't gone back to sleep. It's very unlike them as they are usually good sleepers. They will also be grumpy tomorrow due to lack of sleep.

Is there anything I can do to try and save the day?

I'm thinking of saying everyone stay in bed til 9, but then if ds is still awake from 2 that's a long time to lie in bed awake isn't it.

Its never been this bad!

How old are they? My 10 Yr old has been in to us to see of we can get up already lol both around 2 /3 . They will be too excited for tiredness 🤣

I had to go up to my two children at 4.10am as they were banging around upstairs and opening their stockings and playing games.

They both know they are not to come down until 7am but I never thought they’d be awake this early.

I marched into them with strict orders to put all their toys away and go back to sleep.

It’s gone very quiet in their room but I can’t get back to sleep 😬😬

Post food and lunch nap? Eg presents, breakfast, run around outside, enforced "quiet time" cuddled up on sofa in dim light to see if they nap?

I'm trying my best to stay positive as I know they are just excited. They usually get more sleep than this though and I know by lunchtime ds will be tired and grumpy.
Ds is getting upset himself now as he is tired but can't sleep!

Solidarity to you OP. I went to bed at 12.30am and got woken at 3.30 by my 6 year old. Can’t sleep now 😩 I’m really not good on no sleep so today is going to be a barrel of laughs 😬

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 25/12/2023 04:57

I got in bed 10 mins ago and I'm STILL on my phone.

I need grounding and my phone taking off me 😭

Babybelle23 · 25/12/2023 04:59

Grab a nap when/if you can. Here for solidarity with a 4 month old who’s only gone to sleep, a twat partner and a full day of trying to stop huge family playing pass the parcel with the baby. Have a strong coffee, a shower, you’ve got this xx

Both of mine are unwell with this awful cough that's going around. I went to bed at 11 ish, both have come into my bed around 1am and now I've decamped to the kid's bed which is freezing. I'll be lucky if I get 2 hours, I am already hating the thought of tomorrow 😞

My son woke up at 4:30 calling for my husband who’s gone in to share his bed… no idea if they’re back to sleep but I’m wide awake! We travel today, hoping he will nap in the car (he’s 7 tho) and hope I drop off for some extra kip…

My children are asleep but I've had 3 hours sleep and now down with dog who is whining at me. I'll let him out and make a cuppa

palmtreesoliveleaves · 25/12/2023 05:35

I never sleep well on Christmas Eve, it's an absolute curse. I always crash shortly after the kids have opened their presents and manage to get a quick nap in.

My almost 11yo seems to also now have this affliction (1st year knowing about Santa) and he was getting quite frantic about not being able to get to sleep last night.

The kids know not to wake us up before the Christmas tree lights are on (7.30am) but as usual I'm here twiddling my thumbs clock watching.

Well I'm sorry everyone was up at 430 but it does make me feel slightly less alone, my 4 month old who usually only wakes once briefly decided to have a party from 330-5 and then wake up screaming at 6 with a wet nappy 🥴 she would usually go back down till 8 but she's just staring at me. Thank god DH is making the dinner as we're hosting for 8!
