I got a crown from Aldi down to £6 nothing reduced in M and S. then, because I needed slippers for tomorrow, I wend to Asda. Dear me what is it about Asda its always so horrifically busy. Anyway I got a beautiful dressed Chicken from there for a couple of quid. No room in the freezer now but Im glad with my bargains.

What time did you go to Aldi - I went in at 1ish and they hadn't done their big reductions yet.

Ragwort · 24/12/2023 17:10

No! Went to two supermarkets but no markdowns at all ...

EachandEveryone · 24/12/2023 17:39

I was on Aldi 230 and Asda five minutes after. I can’t see M and S giving much away their turkeys were well in date. No desserts anywhere!

There was a lot less on offer full stop. This is the first year for ages that I have not picked up a bargain turkey.

Oppositioblue · 24/12/2023 18:20

Asda near was giving veg away free and half price turkeys.

christmaspawpaws · 24/12/2023 18:58

Saw this in booths, organic bronze one
They had about 15 all half price at 2.30pm

Got a turkey crown from Asda for £3.86 today.

jollywhite · 24/12/2023 19:10

Not me, but there were some £120 ones in M&S reduced down to £54. I honestly can't believe anyone would spend this much on turkey! Ours is from Aldi and cost £6!

prawngate · 24/12/2023 19:11

I saw one for £35 in M&S but nothing compared to the bargains last year. Waste of time tbh

terriblyangryattimes · 24/12/2023 19:20

We just got a whole turkey for free from our local 'nothing goes to waste' food charity. They distribute food from all the supermarkets when they close up. The turkey is from m&S and still has 2 days left before it's 'use by'. Very pleased with it and now the frozen crown can be cooked next weekend!

AnotherCF · 24/12/2023 19:37

Same as last year at my aldi but less meat than last year. 75 percent off at 12.30pm. Turkey crowns, sausages, stuffing, ready meals, salad and a mountain of bread. I was lucky my freezer was half empty as we ate all the party food with extended family the night before.

People who give a shit about its welfare when it was alive?

DH had to go out this afternoon to get his Mascaponi for his homemade Tiramisu. I didn't go. He came back and told there were 1/2 price turkey crowns but he didn't pick one up because he didn't know if we had room in the freezer. I did point out a huge beef was coming out, sausage meat and pigs in blankets so yes there would have been room. He offered to go back but I needed him cleaning up in the kitchen and making the homemade pizza so I said not to bother.

TheKnittedCharacter · 24/12/2023 19:50

We have a small group (usually a crowd), so I didn’t order a turkey. Bought one yesterday from M&S, it was still £93, but cheaper than usual.

I would rather go without than buy something really cheap. We try to buy only higher welfare meat.

leccybill · 24/12/2023 19:59

No but did get loooaaads of reduced party bits in M&S so I'm happy with that.
We thought we might have got a cheap turkey this afternoon for Boxing day but we didn't so well have chicken instead. No biggie.

Zipzigzag · 24/12/2023 20:10

We spent £106.40 exactly on our turkey because we value the farmer who produced it (whom we know and get our meat from all your round) and we value the turkey and that it might have a decent life before it had its throat cut so we can have a Christmas meal

Back in the real world unfortunately many of us cannot afford to give a shit about the welfare of a turkey when we, you know, just want to feed our families at Christmas.

Caring about the welfare of animals we’re going to eat is not top of the list for us on minimum wage.

JennyForeigner · 24/12/2023 20:23

Part of our Christmas tradition is Waitrose or M&S just before closing. I've never forgotten the AMAZING Christmas feasts I used to bring home as a teenage saturday girl from a struggling one parent family 😍

Today we filled the freezer with meat pies, ready made boeuf bourguignonne and vegetarian treats for me, and has what we couldn't freeze for dinner

Absolute highlight: sprout gratin. Sounds disgusting, reduced from £10(!) to £1. Probably going to have bags of them leftover. F*ing delicious. So SO good. Don't miss it if you see them!

Solymoly · 24/12/2023 20:31

We went into M&S to look today but there wasn't so much in ours, a couple of turkeys for half price and lots of brussels and vegan pigs in blankets. DH had his eye on the £25 pork pies but they weren't reduced, I think he is going to look next week. We then went into Waitrose but there wasn't much there either and still quite pricey. The reductions didn't seem as good this year.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/12/2023 20:32

We just had a delicious sprout and leek gratin with the ham I have cooked for tomorrow. It was lovely and also very reduced. We've stocked up with party food for boxing day.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/12/2023 20:36

I have a vision of a beautifully dressed chicken in all its Christmas finery (sparkly, natch)

OrigamiOwls · 24/12/2023 23:47

Popped into Tesco at about 3pm, to get some fresh bits. Absolutely nothing reduced.

paddyp · 30/12/2023 20:42

Got a £35 stuffed turkey crown from M&S tonight, reduced to £17.50.
