Feeling stressed about the stockings

I've gone against my own advice and included things that make a lot of noise when moved. Like sweet packets and a maze toy with a ball that rattles around.

I fill the stockings in their bedrooms as that's what we've always done. I am worried if I take the stocking out the room to fill they will wake and see it gone.

Why have I made things more difficult 🤦‍♀️

Anyone else stressing over the stockings?

Probably too late for this year but this is why you have two of something (socks, stockings, pillow cases) - fill one and swap with the one in the room.

DoorPath · 24/12/2023 17:07

Obviously don't fill it in the room. If they wake up and see you doing it, that's Christmas ruined. Take it downstairs for 5 minutes and fill it up, then put it back. They won't wake up in that period. Use some common sense.

I wish I had duplicates but they are handmade and I cannot get another one. It would be so much easier if I could.

Get DH to sit in the room whilst you are gone. If they wake (unlikely) he can distract and work out a way to get you back in the room with the stocking

Late night wee for example

Dearee · 24/12/2023 17:12

Just remove it quickly and fill elsewhere. Why on god's holy earth would you fill it in the bedroom?!?! Madness

Holly60 · 24/12/2023 17:13

Or drop in to conversation that sometimes the elves take the stocking to Santa on his sleigh to fill if they are running late

hazandduck · 24/12/2023 18:02

If they wake you can easily pretend that you’ve just discovered ‘he’s been’ as you were passing on your way to the loo 😄 Make out you just were looking at what they’d got excitedly!

Jeez this is why I'm glad we never started this with my two, we hand the stockings in the living room next to the tree. We always did this when I was a kid although would have been over the fireplace!

Stopsnowing · 24/12/2023 18:19

This is why I started off having stockings left downstairs by the tree/fireplace! I also wish I had got duplicates from the start but it is too late now. Now the issue is they go to sleep way after me!!

I've always done this, takes two minutes to fill in another room. Mind you, I now have kids who go to bed later than me and still expect gifts in their stockings 😬

PersephonePomegranate23 · 24/12/2023 18:24

Can you hang it on the door handle so you don't have to go into the room?

This is what I do. I also have a dupe ready to place on the bed.

viques · 24/12/2023 18:26

Say the empty stockings have to be left by the tree so FC knows where they are, but he will leave them by the bed when he leaves.

dcadmamagain · 24/12/2023 19:50

My daughter woke up before her stocking was filled and cried. I said don’t worry Santa will come to which she got out her iPad where she’d been tracing Santa on norad and burst into tears again and said he’s half way to America……
