Fitness over Christmas?

Those who regularly exercise do you take a break over Christmas or are you hardcore and even exercise on Christmas Day?

I was thinking day off Christmas Eve & Day then back on it. (HIIt training)

I don’t do Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day but work around it by changing my days. I go to the gym three times a week so easy to change my days and I walk the dogs for 5 plus miles on my days off which I still do over the festive period obviously.
My gym is open throughout so if my family annoy me I’ll flounce off to the gym!

Unless you are training for a specific event then no harm in taking a few days off. Your body will thank you for the rest.

If you do HIIT this should not be every day.

I try to stick to my usual routine, so three gym sessions a week. It's an opportunity to get out walking more than I've been able to recently as I'll not be working. Your body needs rest as well as exercise.

I go for a run most days, it helps my mental health, so will definitely do one on Xmas morning. 😅 I tend to not do other exercise for a week or so just because we’re busier with having people over and visiting, but I do keep up the running over the whole period.

I'll run Parkrun on the 23rd, again on Christmas day, and do some basic karate stretches in between. Plus a long walk before Boxing day lunch

That's enough for me. 🙂

Fizbosshoes · 21/12/2023 08:40

I've just started a new running programme and intend to run Christmas eve and boxing day, the Xmas day run is optional but I might do one.
I usually run over Xmas and new year as I have 2 weeks off work 😊 and it eases the guilt of eating my own bodyweight in chocolate

Celebrationsnakes · 21/12/2023 08:40

Parkrun Xmas day usually in this house. Will probably be in the gym Xmas Eve.

PolizeiobermeisterWache · 21/12/2023 08:40

I usually exercise weekdays only so am used to taking a couple of days off every week. My gym/ pool is closed xmas and boxing days. I may go on xmas eve daytime or I may not. I'll see how i'm feeling, what's going on at home and what I still need to do. I won't exercise at home instead- I'll enjoy a couple of days r&r and then carry on with my usual routine.
