How long to defrost a large turkey crown ?

We've been asked to bring a large turkey crown to relatives on Christmas Eve to be cooked on Christmas Day, it will likely be the biggest I can find as needs to feed 14 with leftovers.

Any advice please on what day to buy it ? I have been caught out before with poultry taking longer to defrost in the fridge than expected, but equally don't want to give everyone food poisoning. We will be driving for about 4 hours on Christmas Eve but I will put it in a cool box.

I was thinking of buying on 22nd - do you think that's right or maybe 21st ?

It will take about 24hr per 2kg in a fridge at 4 degrees, longer if your fridge is colder less if your fridge is a degree or two higher. If you have a garage or outhouse which is reliably 8 degrees or less you could put it there in a sealed box but with the double digit temperatures that are forecast that may not work this year.

Thank you - looks like I might need to buy fresh as not sure there are many big frozen crowns left.
