On a scale of 1-10, how stressed would would you be right now if your partner booked a surprise holiday leaving Friday covering Christmas?

I've spent the day reorganising the children's presents, working out what last minute bits they need etc. Hes completely calm.

He did say "I know you get a bit panicked by change". He's partly done it as he thinks I need a break!

Its going to be a manic week but... Inthink my stress levels are falling....

How old are your children and are they going with you?

DustyMaiden · 18/12/2023 14:55

Tell him to sort it and pack, you need a break.

PuttingDownRoots · 18/12/2023 14:57

10&12. They will be very excited. They are used to their fathers shenanigans!

He will do a lot of the packing. I just check the kids clothes etc.

depends what sort of holiday - away to a fancy hotel abroad, all food included then less stressed than if a holiday away to a holiday cottage where i have no idea what kitchen kit is provided and if there is an xmas tree etc.
what will you be doing on this holiday if UK do yo need to think about packing board games and rainy weather activities?

mynameiscalypso · 18/12/2023 15:00

Did you have other plans you need to cancel? Have you already bought food etc? I wouldn't be amused by this at all if DH did it but I don't like surprises whatsoever.

Namechangedworriedmama · 18/12/2023 15:00

If he's doing most of the packing and it's a nice holiday and the kids are not toddlers, I'd be thrilled tbh not stressed

Desecratedcoconut · 18/12/2023 15:02

We have plans and guests around Christmas. I wouldn't be stressed because I wouldn't go.

PuttingDownRoots · 18/12/2023 15:02

Its abroad. Weve been there before so food not an issue.

And I'm actually rather disorganised this year with Christmas prep so nothing to cancel.

He was supposed to be having an operation Friday, it was cancelled this morning and he just though Sod It... We'll go skiing!

I would be in two minds, spinning with everything to adjust and annoyed he decided without bothering to ask my opinion first…and also quite excited at the adventure of it all

skiing where?

MahShinyShoes · 18/12/2023 15:07

I'd be much more excited & on board if DH had said 'My ops been cancelled - lets go skiing!' and we made the decision together.

Exciting & lovely. Whoo!

But presented as a done deal with no thought whether that works for the family & do I actually want to go? ... Less enthused TBH.

OMG I'D LOVE IT!

FuckingHellAdele · 18/12/2023 15:14

It wouldn't work for us because I'm a control freak I like to have involvement, plus we have plans, people to see and shit to do, . But if it's just a case of packing up and you don't mind, then enjoy your trip!

PuttingDownRoots · 18/12/2023 15:27

To be fair I was shown the plans before he pressed book!

Its to Austria.
