Do you feel festive or not?

I don’t and it’s making me fed up! The shops are heaving at all times, and it feels like there is so much to do and so little time. I look forward to Christmas Day itself where hopefully we can just relax and do not a lot alongside loved ones.

I love to feel festive and so try to get as much done as early as possible so that I can use the weekends and days in the run up to go to Carol concerts, meet friends for mince pies etc.

SausageChopsBellyFlops · 16/12/2023 17:03

I can't wait until boxing day.

The lead up is so stressful, there's far too much to do, then Christmas day is full of tidying and cooking and dishes etc (single parent)

Boxing day will be leftovers, a tidy house, and time to chill out for me, so that's when I'll feel festive 🤣

housethatbuiltme · 16/12/2023 17:05

No where near as much as I want too.

I think DH nailed it in that we didn't really have a summer this year (we got like 3 burn you as soon as you leave hot days and the rest was grey clouds and rain) really so its just been autumn/winter for basically 14 months or so.

We're just 'over it' now, I'm so sick of being cold and damp constantly (to the point I'm in actual pain from the cold) that I can't 'enjoy' anything.

Nonplusultra · 16/12/2023 17:06

No.

But I’m very much looking forward to the few days after, when the in-laws are gone home and I can properly relax.

For now, it’s just ploughing through an unending to-do list.

It is nice seeing the kids getting excited for presents and time off school though.

Vettrianofan · 16/12/2023 17:10

Not really. Just exhausted with all the obligations this year. Will be glad when it's all over.

PurBal · 16/12/2023 17:10

It’s DH 40th birthday between now and Christmas Day. I have two under 3 (23 month age gap). I’m okay for festive 😜

Oblomov23 · 16/12/2023 17:13

No. Only got out decs out today because Dh instead. Did enjoy church carols this week though. Feeling really miserable, being bullied at work, broke my back in 4 places this year and still in terrible pain. What a shit year.

Bertiesmum3 · 16/12/2023 17:14

No
my only 1 day off out of 7 and I’m cooking for 8 of us!

TheChosenTwo · 16/12/2023 17:16

No but I will on Tuesday when I have my works Christmas party and then I’m off for 2 weeks!
We don’t do any organised festive activities though (like meeting Santa, winter wonderland, light trails, carol concerts, ice skating etc), we just do our own stuff to enjoy the holidays once we’ve broken up from school. dc 3 doesn’t finish school until Wednesday and the older 2 are working various days next week - I’ll start feeling festive when I don’t have a 5:45 alarm call 😂

mycatsanutter · 16/12/2023 17:20

Nope , not at all . Putting the decs up tomorrow and going to a festive thing at a big park so maybe that will put me in the mood 🤷‍♀️I would prefer Xmas every other year really , maybe I would look forward to it more .

EmptyYoghurtPot · 16/12/2023 17:25

Not this year - but I think it’s because term doesn’t end till the 22nd and I’ve got too much to do.
However, next Saturday we are travelling to my parents to have Christmas ‘at home’ for the first time in 7 years. Every time I think about it I get a little flutter of excitement so I’m hoping I’ll feel proper festive by then.

Izit · 16/12/2023 17:29

I do!

I work in central London so I see the lights everyday and it’s made me feel festive since December started really.

I haven’t had any Xmas outings or parties this year for various reasons, and it’s actually made me feel more festive as I’m less frazzled.

I did a few bits of Christmas shopping this morning and have been watching crap C5 Xmas films all afternoon on the sofa with a hot water bottle and my Christmas tree lights twinkling.

I found it harder when my kids were small as I was always trying so hard to make it magical. Now they’re teens it’s a lot easier (although just as expensive!).

TM1979 · 16/12/2023 17:33

We are on holiday in the canaries. I’ve never been less festive and it’s great!

MrsFloof · 16/12/2023 17:36

Yes quite festive here, first tree was up early November for that cat who found an old bauble.

We have real tree up now and lots of Christmas lights and have musical advent calendar so Christmas songs every day. Street is full of cottages decorated outside and one looks like a Hollywood film which Santa is about to land on roof. Had some Christmas food and drink. Done all the shopping.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 16/12/2023 17:51

I'm feeling festive, the build up is the best bit for me, Christmas Day itself just seems to go by in a bit of a busy blur.

We've been to a carol service today, and had a mooch around a Christmas market; next week DH and I are taking ourselves to a matinee of It's A Wonderful Life before the DC break up; DD and I are going to an open-air (so chilly 🥶) production of A Christmas Carol, and we've got Christmas Eve dinner booked at our favourite restaurant. Lots to look forward to.

FedUpMumof10YO · 16/12/2023 17:53

I didn't last year so making up for it this year.

yoshiblue · 16/12/2023 18:08

I'm doing ok, I'm lowering my expectations. It's such a busy time of year and the stress can ramp up if you're not careful.

I've got the bulk of the wrapping done today and want to get a good clean of the house done tomorrow so there is nothing major to do pre Christmas.

I'm Catholic so enjoying our Sunday masses and I'm popping to an extra one in the city this week during the work day.

Hibernatalie · 16/12/2023 18:16

I actually really do. So close to cracking into the cheese...

MarleyandMarleyWoooo · 16/12/2023 18:17

Oh absolutely. Baileys in every hot drink and Heart Christmas on the radio every day level of Christmassy 😂

hopeishere · 16/12/2023 18:20

No. I'm really busy in work (but Tuesday is my last day - yay!!) so I can't wait to be off.

I've had a cold / sore throat. And am sleeping really badly so am knackered.

We're going out tomorrow for lunch and I can't be arsed. I'm going to do a pamper tomorrow beforehand to get in the mood.

I'm hoping a few days off this week and some rest will help.

Yes! Everything is ready. Presents are wrapped.
The turkey will soon be delivered. I haven't got legionnaires' disease.

All good.

LadyBird1973 · 16/12/2023 18:25

Not quite yet. I'm still trying to shift a few pounds before Christmas, so haven't broken into the Baileys and mince pies yet!
Have done the wrapping though and am on track with preparations. Am enjoying my Christmas decorations and fairy lights everywhere and that my husband is now off work!

JoyeuxNarwhal · 16/12/2023 18:37

I'm trying. I've been unwell and not good for much really. Missed work Christmas party and a planned shopping day/Christmas market trip with a friend. Need to clean/clear the lounge before putting the tree up but not got the energy for that.
Trying not to mope about it. Been watching festive films whilst flopped in bed. Done my shopping online but still hoping to be able to go to an actual shop for stocking-y bits for dc.

saltynotsweet · 16/12/2023 18:43

No, feel like I'm going through the motions TBH and I can't believe it's only a week away, I'm usually feeling much more festive by now.

Fluffywabbits · 16/12/2023 18:48

Nope, not at all! Some genius brought the cold into work instead of working from home so I'm now riddled with it too. Feeling very sorry for myself with a box of tissues, hot water and blanket on the sofa. All our pre-xmas plans have now been shelved to avoid passing it on.
