Any recommendations for family games/quizzes/things to keep everyone occupied other than board games? We have lots of those already.

Everyone takes turns to stick the name of a celebrity/character etc on another person's forehead. The person with the name on their head has to ask questions to try and guess who it is. Made more exciting if you set a timer. Now sure if it has a name but it's great fun

We loved Mindtrap, the game of lateral thinking puzzles. One of my favourite riddles is a one about a traditional cassette recorder.

"The dead man's head was on the stop button of the cassette recorder. The detective pressed the play button, heard a suicide message, followed by a gunshot. The detective was certain that somebody had imitated the victim's voice, and murdered him. Why was he so sure?"

Not many teenagers or children would get this.

I have just ordered one from Vinted on the strength of this recommendation. Thank you!

(To the person who asked the answer to the riddle: on an old fashioned tape recorder there is something you need to do after recording a message before you can play it...)

I work for the police and boy do we love acronyms. I thought a mini drunk and disorderly campaign sounded fantastic 🤣

is it dungeons and dragons ?

Edited

Missed this last year! I think I’ll definitely have to add some drunk and disorderly games to our repertoire this year 🤣

But yes, it was just dungeons and dragons - although I lost the run of my carefully planned 4 session campaign and it carried on for weeks after Christmas.

It's on the tk maxx website for 9.99. I've just bought one!

Cereal box game - put an empty cereal box on the floor. Everyone takes turns to pick it up with their teeth - only feet are allowed on the floor, no use of knees or hands etc. After everyone has done it, cut the box to a shorter height and repeat. If you fall over or can’t do it you’re out.

It is good for a mix of adults and kids as kids are already closer to the floor. Normally left with a couple of bendy people picking up a piece of cardboard with their teeth.

The GCHQ Christmas Quiz is also good for a range of ages from 10-ish to adult - print off individual copies for everyone. The 2022 one was particularly good (can still download and print it)
