Just that really.

Christmas PJs or do you get dressed?

We are having my MIL and SIL and obviously we are going to get dressed.

Do you wear a nice dress and go all out? Or just your usual day to day? Also what about the little ones?

Just curious what others day looks like 🥰

I have a Christmas dress. Very loose empire waist in green velvet with stars on. Wear with Leggings, its basically fancy pyjamas.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 16/12/2023 09:33

Jeans and a jumper, same as every day! I do have a Christmas jumper now though, so will wear that. Before, it was usually just red or a bit sparkly.

FestiveFrederica · 16/12/2023 10:13

I also have a lovely jumpsuit with stars all over it which I might wear for Christmas eve

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/12/2023 12:43

@turkeyboots love the sound of that dress - is it a new one ?

wherethewaterisdarker · 16/12/2023 13:14

I am fascinated by the adults wearing pyjamas all day thing… does it not make you feel like you’re ill? And does that mean you don’t go out for a Christmas Day walk?? Or do you put coats over pjs? So many questions 😁!!

Agree with all of this. I am frankly horrified at the idea!

GuitarGeorgina · 16/12/2023 13:21

Jeans and warm jumper. My house is cold.

I would feel like I was ill if I stayed in pyjamas all day.

ShippingNews · 16/12/2023 13:24

PJs must be a weather thing - we have a hot Christmas and nobody wears night clothes here. Everyone likes to dress in festive outfits, suitable to the climate.

I'll be wearing white shorts and a red sparkly top, and a floral lei around my neck. DH will wear Bermuda shorts and a jazzy Hawaiian shirt. Flip flops are the shoes of choice.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/12/2023 13:25

Thank you @turkeyboots
Looks a perfect Christmas dress .

Mustbethemulledwine · 16/12/2023 13:47

Pyjamas until mid-morning. Then everyone gets washed and changed. Me and DD will wear christmas jumper. I always pair it with something comfortable, like leggings, anything stretchy, really, so I'm not uncomfortable when I bloat after christmas dinner 😂
Dh and DS 1 & 2 will usually wear new clothes they've received as gifts.

Raindancer411 · 16/12/2023 13:51

We get dressed but into nothing fancy, just the same as usual but maybe a Christmas jumper lol

Why would you be horrified by a large family wearing what they want and having loads of fun? No cooking to do - one huge cold buffet. There will be 17 of us - three generations - aged nearly 80 down to early 20’s. The pj’s are new, it doesn’t make us feel like we’re ill, we shower as usual and have an annual competition over who is wearing what design. We’ve loads of snow so won’t be going out on Christmas Day.
Personally I find it odd getting dressed up when you’re at home or at a family members home but everyone to their own.

Perfectlystill · 16/12/2023 14:47

Pyjamas in daytime just makes me think of being ill. I have Covid at the moment and have spent all my time in my nightie and can't wait to wake up feel better.

I'm all for a family having fun but the idea of all day pyjamas makes me feel just URGHH! I just think it's weird.

I know on MN we're all meant to have Christmas Eve boxes and new pjs and cosy socks and hot chocolate but that makes me want to have a good wash and put on black tie quite frankly.

Let’s agree to disagree as I think it’s weird dressing up in your own home. I promise I’ll have a shower before putting on my new pj’s - they cost me CAN$280 so won’t be wearing them if I get ill.🤣

Get dressed nicely in the morning as go to church after breakfast. Generally pull on a comfortable but nice outfit to relax at home, wearing fluffy slippers, once we are back in for the day - I have to collect wood for stove, cook dinner, bring dog out for evening amble etc so pjs not an option.. although TBH, I've only ever done pjs all day when sick.

Lysianthus · 16/12/2023 15:23

I love this thread! Was just showing DC pics of me and my sis in the 70s, wearing our long green velvet dresses, which my mum had made for us, and everyone else looking very dressed up! Times change though and I do like the idea of an enormous family get together in PJs!

LittleGreenFroggie · 16/12/2023 15:37

The last couple of Christmas's I've worn a tartan 50's style swing dress. Lost loads of weight since I bought it though so this year I've got 'leather' fitted jeans and a red jumper with sparkly bits on it. Usually change into pj's late afternoon/early evening.

growingonmyass · 16/12/2023 15:57

It's so weird isn't it, getting dressed up to sit in your own house all day 😂

I end up putting my best clothes on but with my slippers, so quite frankly I look a right tit.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/12/2023 16:03

I think Christmassy leisurewear styles are perfect, eg Christmas jumper or jersey dress - nice and comfy but like you've made a bit of an effort.

Gnomegnomegnome · 16/12/2023 16:09

Father Christmas always brings us new pyjamas on Christmas Eve despite us all being over 18 (not Christmas pjs but nice ones). We wear those Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day morning and then we go for full glam with the addition of paper crowns with dinner.

We love getting dressed up but don’t often go out!

PleatedShade · 16/12/2023 17:09

I'm intrigued now @Parker231. Whilst I wouldn't personally feel comfortable wearing pyjamas on Christmas Day I think they are really lovely. Will you wear them at other special events in the coming year or do they become incorporated into your 'chilling around at home' wardrobe? And do they ever eventually become sleepwear?

I'm not sure my lifestyle is glamorous or relaxed enough to warrant several pairs of gorgeous pyjamas. I could start with one though.

After Christmas Day they become lounge wear for around the house. Have never ‘dressed up’ for Christmas Day - it’s either pj’s or ski gear.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 17/12/2023 01:04

So it's decided I'll wear something comfortable with hair and makeup done. Once dessert is being served it's Pjs and on the sofa!!! 🤣

I don’t have any pyjamas but if I did I can’t imagine eating my Christmas dinner wearing them. I like to make an effort.
