Just that really.

Christmas PJs or do you get dressed?

We are having my MIL and SIL and obviously we are going to get dressed.

Do you wear a nice dress and go all out? Or just your usual day to day? Also what about the little ones?

Just curious what others day looks like 🥰

I wear something nice, but not especially fancy. I find the pyjamas thing weird. Is it relatively recent? I would only wear pyjamas all day if I were really ill. It wouldn't feel right for a special occasion, even if we were not hosting.

We’ve done pj’s on Christmas Day for the majority of the last 20 years involving three generations. The exceptions were the years we skied on Christmas Day.

IckleSpickle · 14/12/2023 23:58

It’s only DH and I for the second year running as our children have flown the nest and they descend on 28th and stay until after New Year.

Jeans/walking boots and big jackets for a couple of hours dog walking in the morning and to turn the horses out, home for a bath and champagne round 11 then loungewear until around 5 for another hour dog walking. We take the dogs back out around 10 for half an hour so we get changed again into outdoor clothes.

InSpainTheRain · 15/12/2023 00:12

Jeans, tshirt, trainers - clean but scruffy and comfortable!

PleatedShade · 15/12/2023 00:15

I also find the pyjama thing for the whole day weird. We don't go overboard but I definitely wear something a bit different like a sparkly jumper or a plain jersey dress with some fancy jewellery. It would feel very odd having gone to all the effort of decorating the house and cooking a big celebratory meal to sit eating it in what I feel is sleepwear! Unless I was really quite ill and could only just make it downstairs.

I do love the special cat pyjamas posted upthread though!

mathanxiety · 15/12/2023 00:15

I wear comfortable clothes for cooking in. I usually change my top for dinner (we eat in the evening).

The rest of us wear jeans, shirts, etc.

PleatedShade · 15/12/2023 00:36

And no matter how fancy his pyjamas were, I'm afraid the prospect of elderly Uncle Brian's untethered baubles at the dining table would be enough to put me off my lunch.

😂

And THB my untethered breasts would probably have the same effect on DSil. And there is no way I'm putting a bra on under PJs

Are there really whole families sitting down to Christmas Dinner in pyjamas?

Go back to counting your money Scrooge! 😅

Perfectlystill · 15/12/2023 09:56

I wear something nice and glam. It's good to get dressed up. The thought of doing it in pjs depresses the life out of me. There's the rest of the year for the!

Perfectlystill · 15/12/2023 09:56

*that

savemytimezone · 15/12/2023 10:09

Jeans and my Xmas jumper. Goes with DDog's extra long Xmas walk to tire him out so I can watch TV and eat for the rest of the day!

Parker231 · 14/12/2023 22:38

We have three generations staying from nearly 80 year old down to six in their early 20’s - we will all be in pj’s for the day - not Christmas ones but ones we buy for the day - always a big surprise as to what everyone has chosen - am convinced my DMil has Barbie design this year ! These are mine.

Those pyjamas really are the cat's pyjamas! 😁

Yep, no-one wants Uncle Brian free-balling at the dinner table!!!

A nicer top than usual, with the most presentable jeans or jeggings - and an apron if hosting, to save nice top from toasting tin splashes.
No pyjamas here.

This Christmas (we’re not hosting) I’ll be wearing nice new dark green velvety (very comfortable loungewear type) trousers, with a red jumper.

AmongstTheCosmos · 15/12/2023 10:26

@Parker231 please tell us where you got those fabulous pyjamas!

Snowdrop90 · 15/12/2023 10:29

I get dressed up.

The idea of pjs seems passable if freshly showered and new pjs are worn like others have said but I would hate it if other members of the family rolled out of bed and to the table as they were 🤢 for some reason the thought of pjs smelling after cooking seems worse than normal clothing too

Deadringer · 15/12/2023 10:30

I don't dress up but I will wear jeans and a nice top and a little make up, just so I feel good.

i bought them in Toronto but they are from a uk designer. Found them also in Anthropologie in the uk.

Wow! Out of my pyjama budget but they are truly inspiring. I'm quite tempted to find some beautiful fabric and have a go Sewing Bee style. I can hide mistakes among smiling cats.

Broodywuz · 15/12/2023 11:14

Christmas dress, a fun one rather than glam, Matalan have really nice comfy ones this year £12 with tights and my slippers.

Chatterboxy · 15/12/2023 12:45

Kids grown up with their own families now, so we’ll be on our own Christmas Day this year, so a long lie in, shower & a PJ day for us, no huge dinner to cook, just a fillet steak & nice wine! Perfect.

I've just bought a fair Isle dress and cardi set thing. Sound awful, but I like it.

I've also bought a new set of joggers and sweatshirt. (It was my 40th birthday recently, so decided to buy a few things)!

Think I'll wear the fair Isle set till dinner and then have a bath and into joggers for Christmas evening. I've decided the dress and cardi will survive a walk too

If you’re clever at sewing you could make some gorgeous pj’s - I’m definitely not!

Am very tempted to buy another pair from the same company - hopefully they’ll have a sale in the new year.

Zanatdy · 16/12/2023 09:27

we don’t get glammed up. I used to put the kids in a nice dress / shirt & trousers. My DD will probably wear her PJ’s, I’ll just wear normal attire
