Easy tea after the panto on NYE

We’re going to the panto on NYE and won’t get home until about 8pm. Looking for a quick and easy, but nice supper that we can have when we get home!

  • only four of us, two adults and two teens
  • no meat, nuts, sesame or eggs
  • nothing spicy
  • something buffet-y / nibble-y rather than a big sit-down meal
  • quite happy to include shop-bought food, I’m not a great cook!

I'd probably have cheese, biscuits, bread, cheese straws, pickles, olives, crisps etc. I find any excuse to eat that sort of a meal.

Raid m and s for Greek meze type food or homemade. Spinach and feta parcels, dolamades, tzatziki, pitta, falafels, houmous. Various bits to just warm in oven or take out fridge

givemushypeasachance · 13/12/2023 16:30

Pizza and garlic bread, sorted!

Whataretheodds · 13/12/2023 16:44

Roast tomato soup (shop-buy a nice one) with cheese toasties

Mrsjayy · 13/12/2023 16:46

I'd probably just buy the supermarkets 3for2 party food and just stick it in the oven.

This with (jingle) bells on 💯

Picky bits/ buffet/ mezze is hard work imo
I’d do a hearty soup and crusty bread.
Smoked haddock and corn chowder or leek and potato.

I haven’t had this for ages. I’m going to add it too my Christmas week menu.

Agree with party food with pre-made salad and crusty rolls and crisps etc

ThisisgroundcontroltoMajorTom · 13/12/2023 16:55

How about some sort of base like warmed focaccia, wraps or pitta breads and then buy a load of dips and veggie fillings and salad to eat with them?

Or go with hot chocolate and banana pancakes or drop scones or home made waffles?

Papillon23 · 13/12/2023 16:58

I would do bread, cheese, crackers and some bits like chutney, grapes etc.

But I love a reason to eat cheese.

VisiblyNot25 · 13/12/2023 17:01

We like a Mexican feast on NYE - a big chilli, wraps, tortilla chips & dips

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/12/2023 17:20

A couple of big baked Camemberts with lovely bread, pickles etc.

Or make a curry before you go out and eat it with supermarket naan and bhajis when you get back.

MegBusset · 13/12/2023 20:55

Some lovely ideas, thank you !

Baking cheese, and curry are both on the meal plan for earlier in the week.

I think we’re going with paninis with a choice of fillings plus some nice crisps / olives etc as suggested!
