Send gifts or wait until they visit

Posting for my lovely mother who's a little stressed and can't decide.
This year my mum and dad will be alone for Christmas, they will give my family (DH, kids etc.) our presents to be opened on Christmas Day the weekend before, we are spending new year with them but they want the kids to have them for Christmas Day.
My sister and her family live up north but are coming down for new year too.
I was going to wait and give them their gifts when we see them. My mum thinks we should send them all up now so they have them for Christmas Day.
My mum thinks that this means when they are down it will be just about new year.
Would you send them up now to be opened on Christmas Day or wait till we see them at new year? (My sister has said she will do whatever we do).

I would wait. Always nice to have a bonus present later, you can open them together and saves the hassle/expense of posting.

I'd wait. There are so many postal strikes going on I'd be worried they'd get lost/wouldn't arrive anyway.

In many parts of the country the postal service is terrible.
I wouldn't post - because they probably won't receive them until February.

I'd wait. We're often in this situation with family and have a second Christmas on Hogmanay with full roast dinner, crackers - and presents. It's makes the day really special.

What does your mum plan to do for new year?

We waited for family to visit last year (they live 10min drive away). They got their gifts at Easter!

I would always try and make sure that young children had their presents on Christmas Day. I usually buy from Amazon, pay for gift wrapping and have them delivered direct. If you get free delivery, the cost of the wrapping is usually cheaper than if you had taken them to the post office..
