If you’re cooking turkey and ham, what wine are you serving?

Usually we just have whatever we’ve been given as gifts, and don’t put much thought into it.

I solve the problem by not cooking turkey cos it's horrible.

Dizzywizz · 09/12/2023 20:16

We’re having turkey but not ham. We’re having Chablis and then Pinot noir. I googled and they were suggested so 🤷🏻‍♀️. And champagne with the presents

Uncooperativefingers · 09/12/2023 20:18

How many people are you serving?

Tbh, I think Christmas umis about having what you'd like, so I wouldn't particularly bother matching particularly. I'd choose a sauvignon blanc and probably a Fleurie or sangiovese. But that's because I like sharper whites and fruity reds, and neither will massively overwhelm a turkey

I usually get a better bottle of white and bottle of white, whatever is on offer!

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 09/12/2023 20:19

Depends who is drinking, but I like a light red, such as a French or Italian Merlot, and/or a Chardonnay from the US.

M&S Classics range is good- and very safe if you are not sure what you like.

BoobyDazzler · 09/12/2023 20:22

Probably a Merlot - as that’s what I like, and a decent Prosecco, as that’s what I like 🤣

Ragwort · 09/12/2023 20:24

Merlot here too ... DH likes a heavier red wine we have our own bottles. Grin

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 09/12/2023 20:25

Prosecco and merlot

reluctantbrit · 09/12/2023 20:48

I prefer dry white and don't worry what meat I eat. My best friend loves red wine so I have it for her whatever I cook.

I drink red when I cook lamb because I use it in the gravy. I go for a Merlot, Malbec or Cabernet.

For white I drink Pinot Grigio, Riesling or Chablis.

A merlot and a picpoul for us. Best bit iof Christmas....

AgnesX · 09/12/2023 20:55

For other people a Picpoul for a white and a Bordeaux for a red.....with a lower alcohol content so people don't get sozzled on the first glass (and face down in their dinner after the second)

We then do sauv blanc and a merlot or Shiraz for boxing day.
