I second the lock picking kit. Big hit last year. Also a jelly bean game with a spinner some nasty surprised in it but great fun.

I got the Amazon Choice one a few years ago and it was great. My son loved it!

Oh thanks, great!

Racing grannies, or other pairs of wind up toys.

Will I regret buying the lock picking kit? Will it start teenage dc on the route to a life of crime? 🤔

PersonWithInternalGonads · 12/12/2023 11:54

Yesididntdothat I'm considering which of my teenagers to give it to. The one who would enjoy it the most is definitely the one that shouldn't have it.

ItsCu · 12/12/2023 12:02

God what a list of wasteful junk.

Why buy crap for the sake of buying crap?! And we wonder why our seas are full of plastic and our bloodstreams too.

If you can’t get something meaningful, why bother wasting money on shit that ends up in the bin? And yes a bunch of outraged people will respond to this and call me Scrooge or the Grinch or whatever, or insist that little Jemima loves her fidget spinner and still has it 62 years later, but it’s all bollocks and this is just hideous consumerism for the sake of it.

Yesididntdothat · 12/12/2023 13:45

Anything that doesn't get used or played with will go to the charity shop. If a lock picking game (for example) keeps ds off his Xbox for a couple of hours and helps his fine motor skills a bit that's a win for us. Of course it can be taken too far, but a stocking with weird stuff in it is not exactly a new phenomena, I had one in the 70s.

Just because it’s been done since the 70s doesn’t make it okay? The above statement is correct. The idea of buying tat and thinking ‘it’ll just go into the charity shop’ is ridiculous…why not either get a genuine gift or just don’t bother and teach your teenagers not to be so consumerist? How wasteful. It’s so bad for the planet. And the same people feeling pressured into buying such shit will be moaning about COL in January

And a happy Christmas to you - misery guts!

Maybe when people join the board they peruse the trending boards and decide to comment on those that interest them, crazy thought huh? And the fact that you both had said ‘misery’ and ‘whinging’ really proves @ItsCu s point 😂

whatever. When your teenagers are struggling to eat because soil degradation is so bad we can’t grow crops any more (genuinely happening right now) or they’re struggling with cancer because of the plastic particles in their blood, at least they can look back and remember the time their parents bought them lock picks that last about a week and relax knowing it was all worth it 🙄 Such a shame the rest of us have to suffer from your crappy attitude. Still, I’m sure you’ll all shrug your shoulders and blame the generations before you or big companies and brush your hands like you played no part in it all. Merry Christmas. I might be a whinged but at least I have some morality and I care about our planet and future generations. I’d rather have that and be called whingy. Trust me I can happily look myself in the mirror.

Anyway, clearly this board is not for me because I’m not a fan of rubbish tat, so I’ll be off again. Enjoy your crappy Christmases!

Yesididntdothat · 12/12/2023 15:08

I'm fascinated that the purchase of a small gadget means we've all gone to hell in a handcart. I think I'll look for a thread about what type of turkey to get and gloat since I've been vegetarian almost all my life and don't contribute to deforestation for growing animals for meat.. oh wait I won't, as it's not as simple as that and I don't want to be a dick.

where's the "outraged posters" we were promised? I'm not sure you understand what "whinging" means because it it certainly doesn't equate to "outraged posters".

Such a shame the rest of us have to suffer from your crappy attitude.

What crappy attitude have I demonstrated? You know literally nothing about me or my life.

Trust me I can happily look myself in the mirror.

Trust me, so can I.

@MonkeyInASubmarine Im greatly offended by your username. It's really cruel to put a monkey in a submarine or even make a joke about it.

I hope you have a crappy Christmas too

Okay, this made me snort laugh!

I agree though. Putting monkeys in submarines just makes my heart sink. 😉

Did you happen to spot this little gem amongst the reviews?! Naughty elf!! 🤣
