3 DD’s…

Im absolutely delighted with the younger two’s Christmas, they are going to be blown away with their main presents and very excited to give to them however I’m absolutely stuck for (almost) 17 year old.

She is arty/stagey and very musical and is currently doing A level Art L, Drama and Music as well as LAMDA. She already does drama groups (PQA, stage coach etc)

She loves music and is always listening to something, but she has AirPods and we have bought her vinyl.

She LOVES gigs, concerts etc though never done a festival.

She loves jewellery, the jangly the better and has a great style but apart from her DM’s and spending her wages in H&M, vintage shops isn’t hugely into big expensive brands, though does like her footwear…

She Is just a very creative and fun soul but I’m coming to a loss for a main present she doesn’t already have or would suit…

Some things I have thought about are a loop pedal for her guitar, the small Sage coffee machine (which I think she would like but as she is a trained barista at work and appreciates a good coffee but I wonder if a bit too housy for a 17 year old) and driving lessons but have decided to hold off on them till her birthday…

I’m not against an experience type present but she has had blocks for theatre workshops/classes and musicals Wicked, Six etc so I’d like to do something different.

(Grandparents have got her switch games Tazman uggs and giraffe tracking bracelet)

If your daughter sounds similar what is her main present?

Could you speak to the parent of her best friend (if she has one) and then btoh consider buying them her a festival ticket to enjoy together (Boardmasters or something?) or would that not work for you?

Does she craft? Would she like something like a circuit machine?

Sewing machine?

Amp for her guitar? Or mic if she likes singing as well?

Retro roller skates

I'm assuming she has a record player if you buy her vinyl? DJ lessons/Studio time?

I'll keep thinking...

fernsandlilies · 04/12/2023 21:41

Budget?

how about a vintage leather jacket?
3d printer?
jewellery making workshop
roller blades
festival tickets if she has someone to go with

SlightlyJaded · 04/12/2023 21:41

Stuff for her room? Cool Theatre themed decorative things for her room? Neon sign/ Stage Door / Hollywood mirror type things? Or vintage equivalents?

Velvet or animal print chaise longe or a piece of theatrical/decadent furniture for her room. We bought DD a pink velvet chaise when she was 18 and she bloody loves it.

Still thinking...

Thank you most of this are all really great ideas and quite fitting to her (amp, microphone etc) but she already has.

I’ve just been on the boardmasters website as we care not a million miles away from there and no she has friends that are going but I have no idea what I’m doing…

It looks like a lot of it is sold out already.

My DD is a similar age and arty, into reading. Am finding it hard this year.
Have got PJ's, Minecraft for switch, ghosts book (TV show) some Japanese brush pens, nice socks but no showstopper gift. She doesn't want any more art materials or books to read. Doesn't do make up or brands. Uggs were offered and declined.

Whodhaveem · 04/12/2023 21:43

@fernsandlilies budget fairly flexible for the right thing.

I wish I’d thought of Boardmasters sooner!!

Does she have a tablet and laptop? My arty DDs enjoyed a Wacom tablet for drawing or a dslr camera at 16.

Whodhaveem · 04/12/2023 21:46

@ODFOx she has an iPad and Apple Pencil which she tells me she does use for art.

I’m not an expert on Boardmasters but it looks like only the cheapest tickets are sold out and more are available? Is it like an early bird scheme and those ones are gone?

Gazelda · 04/12/2023 21:49

My 15yo loves the shower radio she had for her last birthday.

She's getting an Alexa echo for Christmas, some gold studs, PJs, plus a mountain of books and a set of beautiful pencils she's asked for.

Stocking will be chocs, a macrame kit, fluffy socks and a few other bits and bobs.

ODFOx · 04/12/2023 21:51

Festival tickets: something not too full on but with good music. Wychwood or Towersey perhaps?

SlightlyJaded · 04/12/2023 21:59

I've just looked at Boardmasters and deffo lots of tickets left. Does she have a best friend? Could you speak to the parent to see if they are up for buying a ticket too?

Donewiththisshit · 04/12/2023 22:02

Leeds and Boardmasters festival. Couple of gig tickets.

Whodhaveem · 04/12/2023 22:03

@SlightlyJaded thank you I’m actually quite excited about this as know lots of her friends are going!

Im looking at this option as wed-sun seems to be sold out…

As an absolute technophobe and someone who has never booked a festival in their life, does this include camping and all stages/acts?

DD is getting new headphones, a rug for her room, some sewing equipment, and band T-shirts and posters. Also a student art pass.

SlightlyJaded · 04/12/2023 22:09

Looks like Thursday Camping Tier 3 £269 is what you want. That would include campsite/all stages/everything, yes.

Great present :)

ethal80 · 04/12/2023 22:27

My DS is of a similar age and similar interests...he's asked for a camcorder (which I've got for him) is this something she would benefit from? Good luck...I've struggled this year too

Whodhaveem · 04/12/2023 22:41

Thank you everyone went with Boardmaster tickets, camping and a cheaper Loop pedal, along with her vinyl, converse a few posh makeup bits and the usual pants, chocolate, bath bombs etc I’m over the moon!!

Not sure what your budget is but how about a Cricut machine? My DD absolutely loves hers- she makes all sort of things with it!

Karwomannghia · 04/12/2023 23:22

Mine asked for new trainers and nice joggers and a Pandora bracelet

merrykittymass · 04/12/2023 23:38

DD2 is very arty and is asked for an upgrade to her 6 year old iPad and Apple Pencil, she’s on her old one every day doing something arty so don’t mind spending £££s for the top of the range version.

DD3 who is 15 didn’t have a clue what to ask for, am very excited have bought her a record player (or is it called a turntable now??) and some vinyl (records??)
