What do I get for someone I don't know?!

Our office are doing a secret Santa this year, I'm on mat leave but was asked if I wanted to join in still which I thought might be nice.
I have ended up with someone that I have never met! It's a lady who WFH as she lives 100 miles from the office (we have a few people who WFH) but she started just after I went on mat leave.
No one really knows her, I've even asked the boss and she didn't know - she just said that we're doing funny presents this year which I hate.
Do I just play it safe and get a candle socks etc... or is that a rubbish gift? I think she's in her late 20s.
Does anyone have any ideas please?!

Thank you!

oh that sort of takes the fun out of it! i love our team christmas lunch where someone hands them all out (only 8 of us… a good strong team with no nonsense or drama).

As for what to get her… does anyone have any relationship with her?

Otherwise i’d get her a candle

what the max?

And that's why I don't do it!

no one will know if you don’t get a funny gift op

I'd either go for a 'funny' mug, sometimes you can get them relating to your type of job (I.e spreadsheet humour for office workers). Or just go for a normal generic present - M&S do water bottles with initials on which is my go to secret Santa present since everyone can make use of it and it's kinda personal!

White Company is your friend for this type of thing. Nice and totally neutral in every sense of the word.

Bit unfair to get someone who is 100 miles away if that means YOU have to pay the postage on top of the secret santa gift

cecil2090 · 04/12/2023 16:46

We have a Xmas lunch in a couple of days where everyone gives their gifts, not sure if we're opening them or not (I know I've left it late - I completely forgot!)
It's only £10 max so nothing big.
I like the idea of the water bottle. I'm heading out tomorrow so will have a look at those.
I guess I'll try and find a nice candle?
No one really knows her, my best bet was our boss but even she didn't know!

Sorry I should have said, she is coming down for the Xmas lunch, which will be the only time I'd have met her!

Travelling 100 miles for a Christmas do?? I hope it’s paid for by the company.
Maybe a petrol voucher!😂
