What toys do/did your 1 year olds love?

I am after some ideas for toys/gifts for DS2 11 months for Christmas, also his 1st birthday is the week after Christmas!

I am trying to buy with intentions and not buy him loads of stuff just for the sake of having it. He is 10 now but I remember DS1 particularly loving a tunnel and the fisher price talk along bear at this age so those are the only things I have bought so far.

What are your one years olds most played with toys?

Best gift my DD received at that age was a kite, used it all year round

Merrow · 04/12/2023 14:10

The Playmobil 123 range was a big hit here, particularly the vehicles (DS1 loved anything with wheels). Also musical books.

mummyof2boys30 · 04/12/2023 14:16

If u want something for summer 100% a scuttlebug

DuploTrain · 04/12/2023 14:22

Stacking cups.

megablocks for when he’s a bit older.

Toot toot cars

My DS was obsessed with sweeping up at that age. We had a long handled oxo dustpan and brush (real one not a toy) which was the perfect height for him. But maybe a toy sweeping brush.

DuploTrain · 04/12/2023 14:23

Also play kitchen and fruit that you cut up.

InTheRainOnATrain · 04/12/2023 14:36

Toot toot cars, fisher price mixing bowl, janod ride on, stacking rings (ikea do a nice wooden one), leapfrog toy phone

housethatbuiltme · 04/12/2023 14:48

Magnadoodle

Devilsmommy · 04/12/2023 15:17

Baby Einstein Activity Table. He's always playing with it and has been since 10mo, he's now 14mo☺️

skkyelark · 04/12/2023 16:22

Duplo, a scuttlebug (until she started stealing her sister's scooter!), a small rag doll, scribbling with crayons on paper or on the magnadoodle, simple puzzles/shape sorter. She also loved the galt pop-up people in their wooden block around that age, although those do get outgrown before something like duplo or crayons.

Devilsmommy · 04/12/2023 16:27

Also a balance bike if he's walking already

sixteenfurryfeet · 04/12/2023 16:32

Stacking cups and a toy teapot. DD played with hers in the bath for years.

reluctantbrit · 04/12/2023 17:39

Look for 18month plus. We found 1 year the worst, DD preferred by kitchen cabinets to toys.

Best was Happyland, played with for ages, easy to take with on a visit/holiday and easy to clean.

DuploTrain · 04/12/2023 18:12

Happyland has been a big hit here too.

There are different styles of buildings - some more chunky and some more fiddly. The chunky ones are better for that age.

My DS spent hours opening and closing the doors and putting cars in and out of them.

Theres loads available second hand on vinted and eBay - it’s very overpriced new and lasts really well secondhand.

alliscalmish · 04/12/2023 18:36

Rody horse - still used every week age 3!

PlumpShady · 04/12/2023 19:37

Instruments!

Fairylightfurore · 04/12/2023 19:57

The Tomy hide and squeak eggs. Best toy ever for that age.

StrawberryWater · 04/12/2023 20:05

Hide and Squeak Eggs

VTech Little Singing Alfie Bear

Fisher-Price pay remote (which he loved so much that it lasted until he was about 5 and he still sings the bloody songs at nearly 10!)

dhxxx · 04/12/2023 21:27

My daughter absolutely loves boxes like these

Also Duplo is a big hit, and also loves her soft bodied baby dolll and toy pushchair, takes them everywhere!

Footprintsinthesand · 04/12/2023 21:49

Fisher price piggy bank
Megabloks
Leapfrog picnic basket
Playmobil 123 zoo

Snugglemonkey · 04/12/2023 23:37

Hide and squeak eggs- santa brought them when dc1 was 6 months old. Played with for years, passed down and v much a hit with dc2 still
Evo 3 in 1 cruiser
Henry hoover
Henry cleaning trolley

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/12/2023 00:21

Climbing everything.
Little toy farm animals.
Books.

Tisfortired · 05/12/2023 08:26

Some really brilliant ideas here thank you everyone! It’s a good idea to think on what he’ll enjoy for the rest of the year too and not just right now. I have ordered the Tomy Squeaky egg things for now as lots have mentioned that and I think I will have a look at some Happy Land sets and instruments. He already has LOADS of mega blocks we kept from DS1, and his grandma has got him a scuttlebug so that’s good!
