Haven't got photos but I have a red tablecloth (Sainsburys) a white table runner, then just white plates and red cloth napkins

gardenmusic · 29/05/2024 13:35

I have resurrected this thread because I would love to know how to do tables.
I have a rectangular seats 6 glass table, and manage a small vase row down the middle, I have a narrow runner they sit on, but the rest of the table will be filled with veg, potatoes etc. More 'get stuck in' than aesthetically pleasing.
We have place mats, but really there is no more space.
Also, how do you manage the plate pile thing? Surely have to deconstruct as soon as you have the first course?
I am ogling pinterest tables, and they are beautiful, but no food in sight!

XiCi · 30/05/2024 10:36

I find it easier to plate up in the kitchen for everyone then I have more table room for twinkly fairy lights down the middle of the table, crackers etc

shellyleppard · 30/05/2024 10:38

I have a cream and gold tablecloth and runner. I serve up the food in the kitchen ( help yourself) . Table has plates, cutlery and glasses on.

gardenmusic · 30/05/2024 10:49

How do you keep the food hot in the kitchen, as I am drawn to this?
I hate hot food to be lukewarm.
I am seriously thinking of revisiting the 70's and finding a hostess trolley.
My crockery is white, so I have a lot of leeway.

TheSandgroper · 30/05/2024 11:27

I have a Christmas tablecloth and my only decoration are two v large Dartington beer glasses (they’re enormous) filled with Quality St, crackers and sometimes paper Christmas napkins.

All else is food platters. I do use my snazzy crockery and Waterford crystal glasses, though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2024 15:22

I have white oval plates which are our every day ones and brilliant for Christmas dinner when you are piling the sides high.
Some white Ikea platters and a white large bowl ( that can go on a heated tray)

I have a festive pattern oilcloth that goes on Dec 1st , and for Christmas a red/green paisley pattern cover - it;s not Christmassey itself but the colours are .
Last year I bought some napkins , washed and dried them and left the bloody things in the drawer !

I;ve got some battery taper candles and a very poncey candleabra .

gardenmusic · 31/05/2024 15:40

I am thinking more about keeping the food hot in the kitchen - I have a big/tall athletic family and we eat a lot. Even with the table covered with food dishes, with 6 of us around it and children at another table, we still have to get more from the kitchen. Might as well keep it all in the kitchen?
Then I can dress my tables

AgnesX · 31/05/2024 15:47

I have white linen tablecloths for a rectangular table (2 with the upper one at an angle so the points are each end). Red and white napkins and placemats. White china, good crystal and silver cutlery.

My centrepiece has been reduced to simple red and green candles as when we had a proper one everything had to be moved for all the serving dishes. (White!)

I like to think I'm being simple and classy but boring might be another way of looking at it 🎅🕯️🎄

'I have white linen tablecloths for a rectangular table (2 with the upper one at an angle so the points are each end)'

Yes! That would look lovely. I need new cutlery.

Last Christmas (I have now put that song in my head) I used my AirFryer to do the roast potatoes after they;d been part roasted in the oven. I reckon that would keep a load of them hot for second helpings .
The Yorkshire Puddings are the last things in the oven , it;s like Ready Steady Cook watching them , doing gravy and keeping an eye on everything else Xmas Grin

Insulated gravy jug ( it's chrome so looks ok on the table ) and the plug in heated tray to keep things watm ,
I have a big table ( only gets extended at Christmas , it can fit 8-10 ) so if there's just the 4 of us we have one side clear for food dishes .

gardenmusic · 31/05/2024 16:00

Insulated gravy jug.
Never heard of this, and need one! I can decant it into my white gravy boats as required.
Which heated tray do you have, please?

KingscoteStaff · 31/05/2024 16:33

Look at my TREES!!!!

Please show me your Christmas tables
gardenmusic · 31/05/2024 16:37

Love them!
Now if I keep the food in the kitchen, I can have decorations like this.

AdoraBell · 31/05/2024 16:38

Place marking. I want a Le Creuset gravy boat.

It is donkeys years old , it had the three metal /lidded containers (and I think a stand for them on top of the heated bit ) which meant I could use it either way .
I think the top bit got lost or broken so just got the tray ( it was a QVC purchase (Prolectrix) - loads similar on Amazon.

gardenmusic · 31/05/2024 17:55

Adorabelle Very nice!

JenniferGreenHat · 31/05/2024 19:29

@KingscoteStaff Your table looks beautiful!!

KingscoteStaff · 31/05/2024 22:23

Thankyou! I bought one from Peter Jones and then copied it with coat hangers and mod rock!

gardenmusic · 16/06/2024 10:18

Oh wow thanks for that - I’ve never even heard of them before but just had a peek and found the Christmas tableware section!

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 18:34

I have excelled myself!
I have some wooden place mats that I was about to throw out, because they are water marked and generally tatty.
I have painted them with an ancient tester pot from the garage, they are dark green, and I am putting them away for Christmas!
Just have to remember them now.

If you live in East Sussex I'm sure my dad would be delighted to get rid of mums old one....

gardenmusic · 17/07/2024 07:30

The song is running through my head!
Thank you for the offer, but it's a dream, for use once a year - it would have to live in the shed.
