I remembered a thread from a couple of years ago, have just had a quick look on eBay, and YES! He is back again! Feast your eyes on this year's delight! (And no, I'm not affiliated in any way whatsoever, good god, no!)

Wtf is gentleman's relish.....

Stopbloodysnoring · 05/12/2023 23:03

@MsTwaffles it’s like a posh version of Branston pickle

Stopbloodysnoring · 05/12/2023 23:05

@MsTwaffles apologies was thinking of ‘Boxing Day relish’ Gentlemen’s relish is a type of fish paste

Togekiss · 06/12/2023 00:41

This is starting to be a real Christmas tradition for me now. So glad I got to read the description for the second (or perhaps third? I’m not sure at this point!) year in a row.

Nonplusultra · 06/12/2023 07:46

When I win the lottery I’m going to buy that, at double the price (at least) to acknowledge the rare craftsmanship, and donate it to my local primary school for the Christmas raffle. I anticipate the little kids going mad buying tickets.

'A SPLATTERING OF MILK CHURNS' Always wondered (a lie) what the collective noun was for milk churns and now I know.

Hmm, an oozing of onion rings, a plopping of plaster, a sickening of 'SPECIALITY SWEET EGGS.' What in the obscure 95th name of the Lord is a speciality sweet egg? The recipe is secret!! But we've been kindly told we can improvise so my ingredients will be 1. sugar, 2. an egg, 3. glue, 4. water, 5. feathers. Mmm... lightly sautee the feathers (can obtain from dead pigeon or similar), mix glue, sugar and water and heat in microwave till bubbly, fold feathers into glue/sugar mixture, obtain egg from fridge, boil egg (optional), pour mixture into a small dirty blue bucket, lob egg into bucket, stir rapidly. Optional: Add plaster if too runny.

214 watching this amazing work of art 😁

It's a bit on the expensive side for me so am wondering if he would be willing to break it down a bit, or maybe a lot where we could all perhaps* purchase a piece of it but am not sure if any of it would survive being pulled out of the plaster? Although saying that I did do a google search and I saw a chisel being mentioned but also that warm water with baking soda could work? I'd happily take a swan and maybe a drummer. (It would however sadly loose its visual value and the joy it has brought us all year after year, so not sure if that is a good idea)

Does anyone know the size of it? No mention of height etc in description. I asked him about the weight of it and he told me its not to heavy and to avoid scratches from the plaster of paris on your table to use a placemat.

I have just added myself to the watch list and see that six others have started watching in the past 24 hours. 221 watchers. All from here l suspect.

ChoupetteTheCat · 06/12/2023 12:31

I couldn't resist, I'm watching the magnificent centre piece too. 🎄

ChoupetteTheCat · 06/12/2023 12:32

Imagine the surprise if this finally sells 😁

peachgreen · 06/12/2023 12:42

I adore that the calling birds "WERE ORIGINALLY GOING TO BE ON MINI PHONES BUT LOOKED TOO MUCH". We couldn't possibly have it being too much, could we?

Jacfrost · 06/12/2023 12:46

Google his eBay username, it's quite the rabbit hole

LightSpeeds · 06/12/2023 12:55

tachycardigan · 04/12/2023 18:32

I tried to make an offer for £1, but got this message:

"The seller is more likely to respond if you offer around £524.99" Sad

😂

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/12/2023 14:44

Gentleman’s Relish is nothing like Branston pickle! It is anchovy-based deliciousness.

Glad to see this object (I don’t know how else to describe it, really) is back on sale, it’s just not a MN Christmas without it. Is there a festive FB Marketplace tat thread yet?

Stopbloodysnoring · 06/12/2023 16:57

@BrightYellowDaffodil i did correct myself on the Relish issue in my next post 😉

Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic · 06/12/2023 17:15

If all the watchers paid £2 each we could then raffle it off. 😂

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 06/12/2023 19:03

This reminds me of that thread about the bloke selling a caravan up in Lytham St Anne's or nearby. It was hilarious.

I'm watching the piece of exquisite craftsmanship too.

Gentleman's relish is semen where I'm from.

Stopbloodysnoring · 06/12/2023 23:43

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots PMSL at that 😂😂😂

ChoupetteTheCat · 07/12/2023 10:48

221 watchers now!

NotFastButFurious · 07/12/2023 14:23

has anyone else noticed that his full name and address are at the bottom of the listing? It kind of makes me wants us all to start sending him plastic figurines in the post and see if he makes something new out of them......

ChoupetteTheCat · 08/12/2023 15:52

I've just received an offer for £35 off the original asking price.

JustLurkingAway · 08/12/2023 16:00

Got my £35 discount offerGrin

Violinist64 · 08/12/2023 18:49

I have also had an offer for £664.99. I see there’s an option for a counteroffer. Would 1p be appropriate, do you think? 😆

HavingToStartAgain · 08/12/2023 23:10

@NotFastButFurious did you click on see contact info and notice the email address? Grin

chaosmaker · 10/12/2023 18:58

So is there an actual market for this thing or all you all being sarcastic? If so it would be tempting to knock one up for at least £100 quid cheaper!!
