Can anyone talk to me about mystery football shirts?

I am considering this for my ds (16) but not sure. He always says he wants nothing for Christmas and gets anxious about unwanted gifts - though v gracious, hence the anxiety. He has asked for a couple of textbooks he needs for A levels, which I would obviously pay for anyway. I don't want to throw away money for the sake of it and would happily save my money and then be more generous at times when he needs it - eg, his friend group are considering going away together in the summer but nothing is definite yet, but I'd be happy to fund this when the time comes but could do without pissing cash up the wall at Christmas on unwanted stuff if this is needed after.

Anyway, I have suddenly remembered that when we were away on holiday this year, my ds2 mentioned in passing that ds1 had considered buying a football shirt of the city we were visiting but had decided not to as it was too pricey - they'd gone shopping together. Also, he favours plain clothes, with the exception of football or cricket shirts, which he will wear when they come his way. He got his dad to buy one when on holiday when with him this year, so I do think it's not just 'his' team he would want.

He loves all history, including sports related, and is sad when an 80 odd year old footballer/cricketer dies who he has never seen play. Is an excellent source of sport trivia. So would he like one of these mystery shirts do you think? Any opinions on this would be great.

My DS is 15 and has asked for a mystery football shirt this year. He also got one last Christmas and it was a hit!

He does collects football shirts and picks them up whenever we go somewhere on holiday, but does seem to love the random ones too. He got one from some unknown Thai team last year - the shirt is lovely and it's has load of wear and they also sent some info about the team.

Would your DS like a shirt from a random team or would be more interested in teams from places he's been? Personally I think they're a great gift and I love buying them for my DS. And it's lovely at their age to have that element of surprise when so many teens (although not yours!) write lists of exactly what they want!

My 16 y.o. DS is obsessed with football and will always look for a shirt wherever we are on holiday. He's received a few of these mystery boxes and had always loved them. Really random obscure global teams, he's looks up finding random facts about. Can highly recommend Mystery Kits beautifully boxed in cardboard and you can specify what you don't want to receive (my DS would rather die than wear a Liverpool shirt).

My son buys them regularly, he collects footy tops. But be aware that you’re far more likely to receive a third-division Turkish team that nobody has ever heard of than an AC Milan shirt.

Fab. Much prefer an obscure club. I'll get a couple of my boys. Thanks for the idea
