What advent calendar does your dc have?

If you do them. Are they chocolate or pre filled with something else, picture ones, or do you make up your own? Also do your dc share at all.

This year I made up their advent calendar with small Xmas themed items. They will take it in turns to open a door a day so will each open 8 doors ( 3 dc ). It's cost me around £20 to make up so thinking next year I should do something cheaper.

At my house…Cadburys
at their dads house…kinder bueno

GoodnightJude1 · 01/12/2023 11:47

DD1 has a gin one
DD2 has a Lindt bear one
DS (13) didn’t want one coz he’s ‘not a kid’ apparently….🙄

ChainBastard · 01/12/2023 12:02

All from M&S except mine, DC1 has Colin the Caterpillar, DC2 Where's Wally and DC3 Science Museum space themed one. I have the (not super expensive) Lindt one.

I have in previous years bought the Lego ones for them to share, and to give them their dues they haven't argued about it but we have an absolute fuckton of Lego so really no need to add to it.

I've just bought a refillable one from Hobbycraft, which we will decorate together when school breaks up as an advent activity, and use next year.

My lovely aunt made a quilted advent calendar with pockets when my oldest DC was 3 so this is it's 12th year. They don't get any other one. I fill it with three little novelty chocs each day - 1 for each DC. They love it - and I'm very pleased because the price of some advent calendars is eye-watering and just becomes another massive Christmas expense. I prefer to keep it simple 😊

Mine have 2 chocolate ones, one from each set of grandparents. I do a book advent where I wrap a different Christmas book for each day. I try to link the stories to what we are doing where possible too so if we are seeing Santa then it is a Santa themed book. If we are decorating the tree then it's a Christmas tree themed book etc. I keep the books and bring out each year, I just take a couple of babyish ones out and replace for older ones each year so it only costs the price of a couple of books.
We were given a superhero book and Peppa book advent one year but tbh the stories in them were just awful so I'm glad to not have those ones and have lots of beautiful Christmas themed books instead.

Dc1 grinch figures
Dc2 stitch figures
Dc3 Minecraft legos
Dc4 lol dolls

They have a chocolate one each too.

Drhow · 02/12/2023 10:18

Cadbury but also a Lego one and one that tells the story of Christmas too so 3 to open each day.

blackfluffycat · 02/12/2023 10:20

Ah your kids sound well behaved. No way would mine share.

They have Bodyshop and Celebrations.

SquigglePigs · 02/12/2023 10:51

4 yr old DD has one that I fill. I've kept it fairly simple with chocolate (mix of different individual Lindt chocs), fruitella chews, temporary tattoos and hair clips.

I got a bit more adventurous (expensive) last year and she was mostly excited about the chocolate ones so I've deliberately kept it simple this year. I figured I'll get more imaginative as she gets older.

Blazingunicorns · 02/12/2023 10:53

Reese’s £5 each

hangingonfordearlife1 · 02/12/2023 11:02

two eldest have a dairy milk one baby has milky bar. standard cheap ones. we have had all sorts in past but they are over it i think and just like the chocolate ones

Justonedayatatime11 · 02/12/2023 11:06

DD has an Aztec diamond calendar and a Lindt teddy calendar. She does however know that the Aztec diamond one is part of her birthday present as it was ridiculous money!

Ozzyskye · 02/12/2023 11:32

Ds has a lindt one (daddy had this last year and shared some and Ds was desperate for his own this year) and a Playmobil Christmas baking one

fourelementary · 02/12/2023 11:51

I bought the body shop one on offer this year and have used the wee boxes for dd (14) for assorted treats (some of the body shop and others with chocolate or wee notes etc) and split the body shop between the twelves treats of Xmas baskets I made for several friends.
ds(11) has a marvel funko pop mini one. Grandkids have Lego and playmobil. Hubby has 24 chocolate biscuits and I have Emma Bridgewater Advent tins. Empty this year as I’m disorganised but they make my heart sing when I see them… so I don’t mind!

sanityisamyth · 02/12/2023 11:59

DS has 2. One is escape-advent-calendar.myshopify.com/products/escape-the-advent-calendar which he started on 1st December.

The second one is a maltesers one which he'll start on 4th December as a countdown until his birthday.

SausageinaBun · 02/12/2023 12:12

DD1 has a monty bangles one. DD2 has a Lindt and a Lindor one as apparently I bought the wrong one and had basically ruined everything, so bought the other one too.

Timetogosouth · 02/12/2023 12:18

Kinder Bueno - the cheaper ones were all gone . Didn’t have the budget for Lego ones though I think they would have loved that at the right age

96waystobehappy · 02/12/2023 12:19

wasted £20 on fabric ones then realised I didn’t have time and then had to buy Lindt ones for 12 pounds each!! No wonder I’m poor. Was so tempted to eat day two last night as kids away.

mondaytosunday · 02/12/2023 12:20

My 20 year old lives on his own so I sent him the Cadbury tower one with mini chocolates (like Curly Wurly etc). Here we have a 3 D London bus with pictures.

DaftyInTheMiddle · 02/12/2023 12:22

We have 2 advent calendars in the house. A handmade one we found in the loft when we moved in. It’s beautiful and the owners haven’t come back to claim it so we’ve started using it as I can’t bear it sat in a bag another year as it’s so lovely. We fill it with chocolate coins, I think DD 2 is too young for chocolate every day so we eat them.

She also has the blue book advent calendar which is a winner so far.

Gettingcoldergettingolder · 02/12/2023 12:23

A chocolate one each and then a homemade activities one. Each day has a note saying what Xmas themed activity we’re doing. Ranges from simple ‘read Christmas stories’ to baking, donating gifts, crafts, meet Santa etc I love it as much as them!

48wheaties · 02/12/2023 12:40

Has anyones kids got the Lindt Teddy one with the virtual reality QR code on the back? I did feel like a donut shelling out £12 for it but ....seeing the teddies come to life, we just cannot stop smiling 😁#cutestthingever

bookworm14 · 02/12/2023 12:53

DD has 2 - a chocolate one (Dairy Milk) and a traditional glittery cardboard one. I love the old fashioned ones and get her one every year for the nostalgia value!

Sprogonthetyne · 02/12/2023 12:57

Previous have filled our own with various toys/sweets etc. This year I've had a lot on, so ran to the supermarket on Thursday and got 2 chocolate ones, the kids are no less excited by this so I guess I could have saved myself some hassle all theses years.

PurBal · 02/12/2023 13:05

2 year old has one we fill ourselves. I use small weaning pots and fill with a couple of chocolate buttons and some raisins. Cost is minimal and DS often has a snack (generally a banana or raisins) before breakfast anyway so this way he gets said snack and it feels like a treat.
