What advent calendar does your dc have?

If you do them. Are they chocolate or pre filled with something else, picture ones, or do you make up your own? Also do your dc share at all.

This year I made up their advent calendar with small Xmas themed items. They will take it in turns to open a door a day so will each open 8 doors ( 3 dc ). It's cost me around £20 to make up so thinking next year I should do something cheaper.

Sounds lovely OP.
My DD chose a (very expensive) Lindt one
My son has an M and S space one

Thesearmsofmine · 01/12/2023 09:23

Mine have Terrys chocolate orange ones this year, I also do a homemade activity advent for them.

JuliaJoJelly · 01/12/2023 09:27

Mine costs a fortune, probably too much.

I have a reusable cloth one and fill it with stuff - maileg mice and accessories, sylvanian families, chocolate, lip balm, notebooks etc.

Probably cost £150 tbh but i always feel like it is a waste to give her the christmas themed stuff on christmas day and that she would like to play with christmas sylvanians etc in the run up to christmas.

I see it as part of her overall christmas present and building up the magic of the season. Or at least that is what I tell myself.

Dd has never given Gdcs any AFAIK, but this year I bought 3 small trad ones (just little pictures, so one each to open each day) and did wonder whether they’d be disappointed that there weren’t any chocolates. But I took them round yesterday and they seemed very excited to have them.

A few years ago I made this one - it’s huge, just fits on the back of a door (hanging) - Gdcs love it. Just as well, it took forever to make, what with all the little inserts to hang on the tree!

A Lego one

notforonesecond · 01/12/2023 09:48

Mine have the standard Cabury one each.

We also have a wooden train one my mum bought me years ago but it’s got insanely tiny doors that barely fit anything in so they’re getting a smartie each in that as well. Ridiculous but they were thrilled with it this morning.

I’ve got a lindor one that cost me £15 because I’m worth it.

oldwhyno · 01/12/2023 09:51

I buy them beautiful card calendars with no chocolate.

My MIL buys them chocolate ones. 🙄

poignant · 01/12/2023 09:53

Ds Lego Star Wars
Dd fidget toy calendar

They also got Moomin chocolate calendars from my parents.

Bbq1 · 01/12/2023 10:15

Ds is older but I've used a refillable one since he was tiny. This year i put in chocs, money, guitar pics , crystals, scratchcards, new Christmas tree dec.

TokyoSushi · 01/12/2023 10:19

Revolution Beauty for DD(11) and then just the cheaper Cadburys one for both her & DS(13) who says he's too old for advent calendars!!

I'm not too old at 44! (I have M&S beauty)

Goneback2school · 01/12/2023 10:23

Lindt teddy calendar for ds10 and dd8. Tony's chocolate one for ds18.

kirinm · 01/12/2023 10:30

A picture one here. We tried one of those ones with a pocket that you fill with something small but it actually made DD less excited about Christmas as she was effectively getting something everyday (even if it was just a hair-clip).

squeekychicken · 01/12/2023 10:32

My dd is made on skincare/ toiletries so I bought canvas bags online with numbers on them and made my own. I saved up my monthly Birchbox bits and added others. She has very nice bits in it- Sol de janeiro minus, the ordinary, claw clips, face cloth, eye lash curler, nail polishes etc . She was delighted with todays opening :-)

riotlady · 01/12/2023 10:41

Just chocolate here, I’m not getting myself into spending £30 on Lego or smiggle or whatever ones!

Blabla81 · 01/12/2023 10:44

My 7 year old has a Smiggle one and 12 year old an expensive Boots one (😣).
They’ve also got a Kinder one each too.

MissDollyMix · 01/12/2023 10:50

One has a dinosaur advent calendar (with a different dino for each day 🦖!) and the other a Schleich horse calendar. My MIL made a beautiful calendar that hangs on the wall with a pocket for each day - I usually fill that with chocolates and make the DC take it in turns to 'open' it. Not using Celebrations this year because the sneaky buggers were swapping the chocolates around so they got the 'best' ones on their days 🙄(also not forgetting the year the dog ate them all, including the wrappers...) I've bought this gorgeous Angela Harding calendar for myself this year.... I'm so happy with it, it's gorgeous https://angelaharding.co.uk/collections/calendars-and-cards/products/christmas-cottage-advent-calendar

I'm apparently a 'mean mum' because I don't get a chocolate advent calendar. Instead they get a more traditional paper calendar (this year I bought this lovely 3D Treehouse) PLUS we have a bowl of handmade envelopes one for each day which contains an advent activity which is frankly a complete bind and DH in particular hates organising it but the teenagers are obsessed and still insist I do it each year. There's everything from 'write your Christmas cards' or 'watch a Christmas movie' to 'go to a light trail' so mainly stuff we'd be doing anyway but when they were primary age it was hard fitting it in after school. Now at least they can get on with it more by themselves.

caringcarer · 01/12/2023 10:57

The bog standard Cadbury one. DH has a cheese one though.

housethatbuiltme · 01/12/2023 10:59

Just classic chocolate ones... hey duggee, paw patrol and dairy milk.

NeverneverNO12or3 · 01/12/2023 11:01

We have a fill your own as dc1 has allergies and then you couldn't really get them for allergies. So I put a coin in for each child suitable for dietary requirements. Dc1 is 19 and still joins in. Cost £7.50 ish for all 3dc.

avocadotofu · 01/12/2023 11:17

We have the Lego Star Wars this one for DS5, last year we had a playmobil animal one and the previous year we had a Brio one. I decant them into a Jojo Maman house with a Lindt chocolate as DS is terrible at waiting for things so one thing goes in every evening. We only have one child so no sharing.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 01/12/2023 11:22

We’ve had so many different ones for the kids over the years (playmobil, Lego, brio, schleich, Julia Donaldson books, luxury chocolates etc).

This year they each have a £1.85 Cadburys one, DH has an M&S science museum one and I have a Liberty beauty one from a previous year that DH has filled up with little inexpensive bits and pieces (bag of chocolate this morning!).

LBOCS2 · 01/12/2023 11:26

The DC have Lindt ones, DH has a pork scratching one and I have TWO (because I am very lucky!) - one is Bonne Maman jam and the other is coffee.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 01/12/2023 11:28

Dd 8 has a stitch charm bracelet one and DS 10 has one with match attaxx cards.

I have wine and M&S one

DH has beer.

Cat was fussy last year so haven't got him one

Inmyownlittlecorner · 01/12/2023 11:43

DD10 has a Funko Pop The Office Us.
DD14 Revolution beauty one
