Bar of soap

DH has suddenly announced after finally getting round to using a bar of soap from a Xmas gift he received last year that he much prefers how they leave his skin feeling.

Can anyone recommend any good quality or luxurious bars of soap?

If he liked the one he's used, get more of the same. They vary a lot.
Some are 'cleansing bars' not soap. Look at the list of ingredients.
The Faith in Nature ones are nice.
All Products | Natural Skin & Haircare | Faith In Nature
Stocked in Holland & Barrett

The Body Shop ones are nice too.
TK Maxx usually have quite a few.

Soap on a rope!

Another vote for TK Maxx/HomeSense for finding nice soaps. They have all sorts of unusual stuff there.

We use L’Occitane bar soap mainly . It smells nice and bars last ages .

@duzzlightyearsmum you can just get Imperial Leather! or even go to the next craft market and get some hand made soaps. dual purpose - put them in a basket in the bathroom and the smell is lovely. no air freshener needed and plenty soap on hand for needs! I never use body wash because I find the smell is away before you even get out the shower, whereas the soap smell stays on body for a while!

Wrote a long message but phone refreshed and lost it.

Bare bars.

Dh swears by them since starting using bars this autumn. Loves the rum bay one. I’ve been telling him to use bars for ages and he says he should have started sooner. He says he actually can’t believe he feels so much cleaner.

There are lots of really good small businesses making fab bar soap - much nicer than the mass produced ones from TK Maxx or similar, imho.
Some of my favourites are:

Boo Cottage Botanicals

The Hedgewitch Soapery

The Dirty Old Goat Soap Company

The Dartmoor Soap Company

I heard about Neste Dante soaps on here and they are excellent, last for ages and loads of different ones. Get them in Amazon. tk maxx is also good for nice soaps.

I love Gruum and there's also an Etsy shop called SoapAndSoakKitchen (or SoakAndSoapKitchen) where I always buy soaps from. SASK are also on Facebook. All natural ingredients.

Neither of these have ever made my skin dry nor affected my partners eczema. I use them on my face and had no issues. They smell amazing and have seasonal scents. I currently have a bag full waiting to be used as I couldn't resist all the Autumnal/Christmas scents.

Faith in nature and they do a men's one called blue cedar, got some in my xmas present stockpile.

Olive Oil soap is lovely. Was just thinking, when buying my husband shower gel, that l must try & convert him to soap!

I usually get soap from The Little Soap Co. or (fancier) an Etsy shop called Ravenscourt Apothecary. Both are great. I am also someone who will never go back to liquid soap/shower gel - I hadn't realised how much it dries my skin out, plus bars are cheaper and use less packaging. So many advantages.

MrsW9 · 30/11/2023 01:20

Another suggestion: if you don't have one already, it's worth getting a decent soap rack/dish that will dry out the bar between uses.

We have used bar soap our whole lives. What’s the alternative? I find this odd he has just discovered soap.
How old is he?

I imagine he’s been using shower gel and liquid soap for years and had forgotten how nice bar soap is, not that he’s never seen a bar of soap before.

I’ve also made the switch and my skin is much less dry. A l’Occitane bar convinced me, they are great. Personally I don’t love the Faith in Nature ones but I’ve liked all the ones I’ve used from local companies so you might find a nice selection at a local Christmas market

Northern Soaphouse on Etsy! Amazing soaps - I picked one up in a cute little shop and now buy direct. They smell fantastic and last forever.

Redlarge · 30/11/2023 09:34

The italiam and african black soap from tk maxx... ive never felt so clean and the lemon smell is amazing.
I want to try those Turkish olive oil ones a PP posted.... think they can be my Christmas present thanks xxx

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/11/2023 11:30

@Theoldwoman , Many will have grown up using handwash and shower gel.

When liquid soaps and shower gel appeared, people thought they were better and more hygienic.

I use liquid soap in the kitchen, but it's soap not handwash.

TKMaxx currently seem to have a job lot of the last huge Claus Porto bath bars in - they literally last months, although it does feel like washing with a soapy rugby ball for the first few weeks.

Miller Harris does beautiful soap which makes the bathroom smell gorgeous - also sometimes half price at TKM.

I love The Friendly Soap Company.

A local shop sells French soap and that is very lovely too.

DisforDarkChocolate · 30/11/2023 11:48

I love a soap saver bag for my soap. Makes it last ages too.
