Every year I think I'm going to make one and every year it gets to nearly December and I haven't...

I LOVE Christmas cake, love the fruit cake and marzipan and ALL the calories. Yum.

So anyway, any recommendations? I usually buy M&S because it's M&S but I'd like to branch out this year. I could sample more than one (for scientific purposes ONLY) 🎅

I wasn't going to make one so I trawled my way through some of the Christmas cake portions ( slice of cake , top ice.marzipan and you can cut into small slices . They;re about £5)

None of them made me think "Oh that's the one^ so I bought Turkish sultanas , doused them in Amarretto for a week and baked a small (7") cake /
It;ll have homemade marzipan (much nicer than bought ) and royal icing . I;ll probably ice half and leave half plain.

I've tried many of them, from various higher end shops (Fortnum and Mason, etc.) to the supermarkets and many inbetween - and the best to date is the slightly-fancier one from ALDI.

It only comes in a rectangular / bar format, not a cake shape, but it is AMAZING.
