Bamboozled by Kindles and Kindle Black Friday deals - can anyone just point me in the right direction?

I'm buying one as a gift (ie, not for me!)

I know nothing about Kindles.

Which ones do people recommend?
What are the differences between them?
have you seen any good Black Friday deals?

TIA

Hi, I have the kindle paperwhite signature (gift from dh last year) and I love it. It came as part of a bundle with wireless charger. I love it as the pages are a warm creamy white, like a book and kinder to my older eyes. I'm updating my mums kindle paperwhite to the signature for her birthday in March, mainly for the more natural paper colour. We've bought our adult dd the standard kindle for christmas this year, mainly as a starter to see if she enjoys it and uses it (she's just finding time to get back into reading). It's worth paying the extra £10 for no adds I think though the recipient can do this at anytime. They're on offer for black friday weekend which may end soon, not sure if they'll be back on before Christmas.

Oh and i have always bought them from Amazon, they are good if you have any issues with them for returns ( my mums old one froze once). I'd also buy a case from Amazon to go with, thousands of styles to choose from. I don't think Amazons own leather cases are worth buying, I've bought 2 and although they look lovely they don't feel like leather and are way overpriced, and their own brand fabric ones are the same and get dirty quickly. But there are loads of inexpensive lovely ones to choose from.

This is the basic one which is fine for me. I would probably like the backlit version for those restless middle of the night chapters but at the time I bought this it seemed quite a step up price wise.
It's single biggest feature for me is not to have the internet option - it really is just for reading. I'm already too easily distracted so it's good to remove temptation. I don't have ads either.

Deal of the day: Kindle (2022 release) | The lightest and most compact Kindle, now with a 6", 300 ppi high-resolution display and double the storage | With ads | Black amzn.eu/d/iXrpZQb

@WhoStoleYourHighHorse thats the one we've just bought dd. It's not waterproof, but she never reads in the bath or in a pool.

I have the Paperwhite Signature and it's excellent. If it broke I'd immediately replace it. I particularly like the page colour like a PP said. It's totally different to reading on a screen (like your phone for example.)
