Charity gift - 15 YO girl

Barbiegirl2013 · 26/11/2023 23:02

Can anyone with a 15 yr old daughter/niece/sd/granddaughter please help with some ideas for what to buy? I have picked an envelope from the giving tree in our local shopping centre and really want to get the young girl a good gift but am struggling as I have no idea what she likes or her sizes so has to be quite general. I was going to get some toiletry bits and a hat/scarf set but not sure if that’s a bit predictable and thoughtless. I’d really like to get her something good as she is obviously from a poor background and may not get much else but I’m a bit out of touch with what’s cool these days. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

My teen and her friends all love fluffy and cosy. So socks or Oodie. Victoria secret sprays. Lush. Face masks. There’s little spot sticker things that are shaped like stars. Basically a pamper kit, face cream. Even if they aren’t into make up a wee skincare set might be nice. Primark is just as popular with the girls I know as branded more expensive stuff is.

Yes, a fluffy blanket like the tie dye pastel ones on Amazon, or an Oodie, or makeup (a nice lip gloss perhaps, in a neutral colour), I also think a Costa voucher is a good shout. Think you’ve got it covered!

Tilllly · 28/11/2023 23:54

I'm not sure about a gift card in case she's not the one who ends up using it

Not fluffy socks and chocolates.

She needs something decent because she's on a giving tree so needs normal teen stuff.

Maybe chuck in some regular tampons too

I'm just imagining this girl opening her gift in front of her brothers and discovering tampons.

Based on my own teen that age I'd echo fluffy socks and Victoria's Secret sprays. Also lipgloss (clear but nice smelling as you don't know her skin tone or what colour would suit, although the Fenty luminezer is supposed to be universally flattering and is a bit special if it fits in the budget), some kind of chocolate, possibly a soft blanket / throw or a soft scarf. My teen refuses to wear hats and gloves.

Meant to say a Costa / Starbucks gift card too.

What charity are you doing this through OP? I'd like to do one too.

My daughter is a older now but would have loved

Fluffy socks
Revolution/Elf Make up
Fake oodie
Posh hot chocolate & mug
Not lush as she's allergic
Silver jewellery (Lovisa is a favourite but I love that bracelet someone linked abov and might well get it for her)
Nice perfume/body spray

Our local shopping mall has a giving tree and the church were our Scouts meet have one linked to a local foodbank.

Also our office building has a collection point, they are working with The Toy Project.

There is a lot around, you can check with local churches and foodbanks as well.

I would get a snuddie (hooded fleece from primark) around £10-15.

A lovely perfume/body spray - the Victoria secrets one are very popular with that age group.

Petitedress · 29/11/2023 17:39

I wouldn't choose makeup or skincare because you don't know her. As others have said, a throw and chocolates would be nice. You can get affordable throws at Asda and they have some really cute patterns.

rbe78 · 29/11/2023 17:43

Not things for a bath - she might live somewhere (small flat etc) without one, or in temporary accommodation where taking a long luxurious bath isn't an option.

Could you pop a book in too? Saw a survey today that suggests over a million under 18s in the UK don't even own one book. The Hunger Games (or new-ish) prequel seem popular with every teen girl I know.

An Oodie knock-off is a GREAT idea. Teens seem to love them, they come in lots of fun prints, and should keep her warm and snuggly at home in what could be a cold winter with the current rising energy prices...

Probably the ideas I would have gone for. Maybe added in a lip balm too - those ball shaped ones were popular when my nieces were that age a few years ago

Needmorelego · 29/11/2023 17:54

I would say no vouchers. She may not have access to the internet to spend online and also might not have a way of getting to local shops (ie no bus fare, too far to walk).
I wouldn't get make up - that's too person specific but shower gel and body spray is nice.
Maybe a nice classic novel. One that is perhaps a favourite of yours @Barbiegirl2013 . You could put a note card in saying it's always been one of your favourite books and you hope she enjoys it.
I also agree that 15 year olds still enjoy nice journals and stationary. Maybe an adult colouring book and fancy pens. A small craft set like a make your own Christmas decorations (get one of those little travel sewing kits that cost a couple of quid too so you know she will have scissors for the craft kit).

momager1 · 29/11/2023 18:09

@Tilllly I was thinking the same thing. A gift card may not be used by her.

SageRosemary · 29/11/2023 18:30

I did this last year for a 17 year old boy. Picked up a toiletry set in Boots and some clothing items from Penneys, I included the receipts so he would be able to change them if the fit was not right. And, we had a root around at home for some extra bits for re-gifting - unused jigsaw, decent notebook and some pencils.

My gift was for a boy in a refugee centre with a name that was possibly African or Arabic, I don't know how long he was in the country so didn't know his command of the English language so avoided books.

There are some really great ideas for teen girls here. Oodie type things, scarves/hats, bath/body stuff, stationery and lots of v pretty jewellery. I know both my teen dds love all this kind of thing (some very nice things for me too!)

Thank you everyone. @Needmorelego i love the idea of buying a book that I love and including a note, such a personal touch and shows though has gone into it. I also thought about a small craft kit and am going to look in hobbycraft later! I will definitely get an Oodie and sweeties, I hope together these things will be a nice gift for someone to open.
For those asking, my local shopping centre has a giving tree full of envelopes with names and ages (I assume the names are false but are so they can match to the correct person) and the gift must then be handed in to the shopping centre near Christmas! It’s the first year I have picked an envelope but certainly won’t be the last :)
