always spent it with my larger family but since covid everyone split off into their own families. i absolutely hate it as none of my other siblings have children so it’s just a bunch of adults talking about politics and careers etc then my two little ones bored out of their minds. i’m thinking about just doing our own thing this year just my kids and husband but don’t know what would make it special? what does anyone else do who spends christmas just their own little family particularly with toddlers? i was thinking presents, nice breakfast, walk on the beach or forest, movie, etc but not sure how much they’d enjoy that

Sounds good to me! I hate political talk (for me it round the Christmas vibes) and I've always hated the visits where the kids are just left out and have nothing to do.
We have presents in the morning and go and feed the ducks in the park with defrosted peas or floating duck food in the afternoon. I'm very much all for Christmas movies and books (and chocolates) as entertainment because that's what I've always done.
Adult gatherings with other family members have always been reserved for after Christmas day if possible but now I have my own adult children come and visit me because its not the same at all (much better IMO).

We have a big get together at my house on Christmas morning. Everyone’s presents are here. It’s just the way we do it.

Food wise we have Brunch and everyone requests the dish they want. By 1pm everyone has gone home and my severely disabled son enjoys the rest of the day quietly with me and his care team.

In the evening we have Christmas dinner and a wee secret Santa for everyone involved in the running of my house and my son’s life. It’s great fun.

This year though it’s all going to be very different. Low key. We’re doing enough so the children won’t miss out but our hearts are not in it due to the genocide in Palestine and we’d much rather just let the day go by.
