I want to avoid buying more 'stuff' this Christmas.

I'm looking for inspiration. Please share your favourite disposable gift ideas - experiences, cards, drinks, food, classes etc. Thank you 😊

Air bnb vouchers

Autumn1990 · 24/11/2023 21:43

If someone likes beer, a selection of craft beers. Other options depending on taste are cheese, cakes/biscuits from somewhere like Betty’s or bothams. Food from somewhere like Donald Russell
Garden vouchers which can be spent at any garden centre

BonjourCrisette · 24/11/2023 22:07

I really like getting good quality bath/shower stuff for Christmas. REN, Weleda, Olverum, Ortigia etc. I probably would not spend that much myself on things like that but it's a pleasure throughout the year. Nuxe body oil is a constant joy. Really posh soap like Tauer Data Miner or similar. A present that gives me genuine pleasure for weeks or months and leaves no clutter behind is perfect as far as I am concerned!

Thank you
@Autumn1990 I love Betty's and have bought wonderful cakes from them in the past

What about an Orcadian Treat Hamper? There is a selection of food including orkney jams and chutneys and cheese… or fudge which is a classic and like a mixture between Scottish tablet and traditional fudge… their mini pepper oatcakes are to die for… and the service is wonderful and supports a great community.

I have also got small tapas dishes with a new voucher for a local Tapas restaurant. Or previously have wrapped up a nice balsamic fur with an Italian restaurant meal voucher- trying to support local or small businesses.

Seeds, plants, herbs, fruit bushes, tree. Bundle together themed plant and food/drink eg 3 types of mint in pots with mint tea bags for them to grow own but have something immediate, olive tree with good quality olive oil, grapevine with bottle of great wine, 3 sorts of marmalade with citrus plants etc. Bundle of ingredients for making things eg cocktail include garnishes, cookies with nice fillings, tiramisu,
brownies, whatever you think they would enjoy/new recipe/your signature dish, including recipe tied on with ribbon.

I like the:
Something...
•you want
•you need
•to wear
•to read
•to share

Especially for little ones, reduces clutter and tat!!

santaexpress23 · 26/11/2023 23:57

For kids - chocolate lolly making sets

Pozz · 27/11/2023 17:33

Lots of great suggestions thanks.

I don't have a particular recipient in mind, I just want to give gifts which don't create clutter. Basically what I would prefer to receive myself. Smile

Plant
Theatre tickets/vouchers *
Cinema tickets/vouchers
Restaurant tickets/vouchers
Case of wine
Crate of artisan cider
Cheese subscription (see Pong)
For someone outdoorsy or who likes birds in or near N Yorks an Owl Evening
NT/English heritage membership
Membership to local attraction/zoo/art gallery
Craft session - silversmithing or something (if in West Yorks, looks at A Touch of Craft)
Driving experience - Young Driver sessions, track days, 4 x 4 days, skid pan
Premier Inn, or other hotel, vouchers
Outdoor swim-walk session

Appropriate offers of babysitting if required for most of the above !

*if getting vouchers, it may be worth getting several low value ones do the recipient can tailor to the cost of their meal/tickets. A local restaurant to us expects you to use a whole voucher, even if you don't eat the whole value. So we had a £100 voucher, stuffed ourselves and the bill came to £72. They expected us to forfeit the remaining credit.
