That time of year... Secret Santa Help! Escape Room wine?

So the lady I have pulled out for my secret santa (shes 40, has new partner, older kids - probably not relevent just trying to give context!) is someone I only work with occasionally if I work overtime. I get on with her well enough but all I really know is she enjoys a drink. From what I can gather she doesnt have any particular hobbies.

Has anyone been gifted a Escape Room wine bottle holder puzzle? Just wondered if this might be fun or is it a rubbish idea? I know you dont know her but if you drink alcohol would this be fun or more of a pain in the bum 😂desperatly trying to think of a way to make a bottle of booze more exciting.. any other thoughts welcome!

Thanks!

I didn’t know what you meant so had a Google. That could be equally frustrating or fun!
Expensive though, and you have to buy a bottle of wine to put in it too!

i was given one a few years ago. Fun for 5 minutes then straight In the charity shop
bag. I would have rather had 2 bottles of wine for what they cost.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 22/11/2023 23:28

It isn't me but if it cost half the price, my scroogy self would get my dil one. She loves games and wine.

Daughter was given one for her 21st. We quite enjoyed doing it as a family (we like real escape rooms and have done quite a few escape style games at home too). A couple of the codes to break were a bit ambiguous and we had to reverse engineer our answers a bit. Daughter has, reset the puzzles and will regift on at Christmas.

If your colleague is in to puzzles etc then it could be a good idea.

Wine & cheese maybe a candle?

clouds87 · 23/11/2023 09:42

Thanks very much everyone! My theory was it would be something different to do with the family...but agree its more expensive then I'd like.

All given me food for thought!

Hmm, fun for five minutes and then it's a piece of clutter that gathers dust for five years before deciding to send it to the charity shop.

Looks like the sort of thing an annoying poncy knob would put on the table at a dinner party and tell people they have to crack it before they can have the wine.

Its a no from me.

clouds87 · 23/11/2023 10:13

Ok think its time to scrap that idea then - appreciate the honesty!

I dont drink alcohol because I dont know it - is there anything wine-accessory type idea any of you would like to go with a bottle? I possibly overthinking this. And wishing I was allowed to repick the name!

I’d use all the budget on wine tbh. She probably has all the non-gimmicky accessories she needs, and would rather have a nicer bottle.

clouds87 · 23/11/2023 11:56

Thats a good point.... !

Or two bottles one red and one white unless you know she only drinks one type of wine.

ACurlyWurlyTail · 23/11/2023 14:12

A bottle of cava or prosecco with a champagne keeper / stopper?
great to keep the fizz in the bottle, Etsy even do personalised ones.

I love mine and it means that I can keep a bottle fizzy for a few days. would never have bought it for myself so was a brilliant gift. (for me)

ACurlyWurlyTail · 23/11/2023 14:13

just to add they are only £3 in Dunelm :-)

kneehightoacat · 23/11/2023 14:19

Quite fun if she likes hosting friends? Maybe not to do alone

kneehightoacat · 23/11/2023 14:20

Does she drink Gin?

A nice bottle would be a nice treat

Spinet · 23/11/2023 14:25

Where are you and what's the budget? There are some really cheap black friday deals on wine tasting experiences on the Virgin Experience days website right now. But obviously if you live in Aberdeen going to Hastings, for example, would be £££
