What’s on your 6 year old boys list?

Really struggling for ideas for my 6 year old DS. He’s also struggling to think of something he wants. If I ask what he’d like and I just get ‘surprises’. He’s not really into anything massively at the minute. He has been through the superhero stage and hasn’t replaced that with a new favourite yet. He’s very physical and outdoorsy. His magnatiles are still played with daily after having them 3 years so I have bought a new set to add to but other than that I’m struggling. He’s had a couple little Lego sets that he’s not really been bothered about. He’s very interested in maths too. I also have family members asking what they can get him. Can you share your 6 year olds lists for inspo

My 6 year old is asking for a huge squishmallow, echo dot, gravitrax, Lego, Uno and a football kit.

calishire · 22/11/2023 21:30

Our son has only really asked for Lego but some other ideas I have for other people are walkie talkies, puzzles and rocks/minerals. Hobbycraft have a section of STEM science experiment type things which I think can be quite good.

Rockfordpeach · 22/11/2023 21:31

My 6 year old DS wants a furby, a bitzee, an explosive science kit, a tamagotchi and star wars toys

soundsys · 22/11/2023 21:33

Mine has asked for a handheld microscope and a pencil case!

AdoringDavidAttenborough · 22/11/2023 21:34

I have a DD of the same age who is quite maths and science oriented. I have got her a Gravitrax starter set (basically a more complicated marble run), a potion making kit, some books and some stocking fillers (including a head torch). Family members have got her:

  • mini table tennis set
  • crystal growing kit
  • binoculars
  • more books

The Science Museum online shop might be worth a look - DD has a great maths book which your son might like. I'll find it.

bluechameleon · 22/11/2023 21:47

Mine (nearly 6) has asked for a camera, Minecraft for his iPad, Pokemon stuff, Bakugan stuff, stationery, cookery equipment and board games.

AutumnNamechange · 22/11/2023 21:47

My one has asked for:

A big squishmallow
Harry Potter lego
Minecraft sword
A lava lamp
Washi tape

GloomySkies · 22/11/2023 21:51

My 6 year old wants:
A bottle of Prime 🤔
A Mr Beast hoodie
Some sinkies to dive for in the swimming pool
Some posca pens (because he isn't allowed to use his sisters)
Some chocolate
"Maybe a new game for the Switch?"
A new fidget spinner

We'll get him some Lego and maybe a squishmallow as well

GoBackToPartyCity · 22/11/2023 21:54

Squishmallow
football kits
Prime keyring
Pokémon mega blocks
pancake maker
snackles
Messi stuff
Kids Alexa

Thank you @AdoringDavidAttenborough That maths book looks right up his street. I’ve read one line in the description ‘how long it would take to count to a billion’ and I’m sold! Those are the type of questions I’m asked daily 🙄

DS6 has asked for a Lego plane, a butEe digital pet and some transformers.

We have also ordered this after I seen it suggested on the bargains thread and would maybe be good for a stem interested kid. You build the rocket and add water and it has steam when it takes off so gives the effect of a real rocket. It looks great so looking forward to him trying it

Deal of the day: Silverlit Astropod Deluxe, Buildable STEM Space Rocket Toy, Real Vapour Effects, Lights and Sounds, Real Metal Detector with Astronaut, For Children Ages 6+ amzn.eu/d/hnfkYqf

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 22/11/2023 21:58

On the list for my 6yo DS:

  • Switch & Go Dino transformer set, he loves them and they are well made
  • Circuit builder set
  • Joke book
  • Metal Meccano
  • New star projector
  • Floor is Lava game

My DS is really into maths and we got him a large calculator that he likes. Other than that he's into Lego, car tracks, remote control monster truck, Roblox and Minecraft buts and pieces

Finchgold · 22/11/2023 22:39

If he likes magnatiles maybe some more construction style toys. My 6 year old loves those maths link cubes, Knex, brio builder, learning resource gears, octons and these are fun https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01AQF2CXQ/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_9?smid=A2MQKJ8B53P2IE&psc=1

notanaturalmum · 22/11/2023 22:40

Have you seen the magnatile marble run. There's a glow in the dark one on Amazon.

Sunnydays41 · 23/11/2023 11:10

My DS (5 3/4) sounds similar, though he is also really into animals, nature and dinosaurs.

Have got him:

Mini Yoto player
Magnatiles jungle animal set
Learning resources number blocks maths cubes 11-20 set (he is quite skilled at maths, can do double digit addition, etc but he has a small maths cubes set that he plays with for hours, making patterns with them, etc)
Mini microscope with insect and plant slides
Huge dinosaur
Hexbugs real bugs
Learning resources coding critter dinosaur

EarthyMangold · 23/11/2023 11:18

Very recently turned 7, mine is endlessly into:

Lego, specifically Lego Star Wars (and anything to do with Star Wars)

Pokémon cards (swopping/playing cards with his friends at break times is apparently socially imperative and the highlight of his school day)

Anything to do with ninjas/martial arts (he trains judo and karate)

Playing out at the pump track on his bike or scooter, or kicking a football with his older brothers.

User1704 · 23/11/2023 16:36
