My imagination has deserted me. My Sister is coming to London for the day on 18th December and I thought it might be good to go somewhere nice for lunch, know its late in the day to be booking somewhere, but any ideas would be very welcome

Any preferences for type of food/general location/cost?

If you're thinking central, I had a great lunch at Hide recently. Cheaper favourite would be Zedel.

How nice and any area?

Bacone in Covent Gdn - pasta was amazing

Isitisit · 22/11/2023 20:48

Bob Bob Ricard would be my choice.

Bob Bob Ricard is a great idea but it doesn't open for lunch on Mondays.

Mele e Pere in Soho never fails me.

Thanks ladies, I'll look up some of these places x

Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden is beautiful and the Piazza is so lovely to walk around at this time of year with all the lights etc. 34 Mayfair is also good and Daphnes

Live music in the evening, but it's good for a relaxed, reasonably priced lunch with cocktails.

That is my suggestion too. Perfect at Christmas time.

At Christmas I like 34 Mayfair or Balthazar in Covent Garden. We've been there the week before Christmas the last few years and it feels festive although it's not OTT. I imagine the Delaunay/Wolseley would also feel quite Christmas-y.

Manzi's in Soho if you like seafood, I recommend the Monkfish Wellington, yum!

TragicMuse · 22/11/2023 22:00

For fish, Sheekey's. It's so good!

45 Jermyn St is lovely. It's behind Fortnum and Mason.

I like both of those.

Covent Garden is fabulous this year with the lights - plenty of venues in there ?

alloelloholasenor · 22/11/2023 22:08

I wouldn't book for an early week lunch you'll be fine. Take a lovely walk down Carnaby Street and try wherever takes your fancy Wink

The Portrait Restaurant www.npg.org.uk/visit/eat-and-drink/#portrait
is delightful-amazing food and fabulous views.

You and your sister can have a walk around the Portrait Gallery before or after your meal which is a nice way to spend a few hours if that might be your cup of tea.
