Why is my Xmas card pile always the smallest?

I know It sounds ridiculous but it's making me feel anxious already.

I've worked at the same place for 12 years and we do this thing where Christmas cards are left on the staff room table next to a little place card with our names on . We can take them as we wish but most people let them build up and take them home mid December.

Anyway, my pile is always the smallest. My cards also look less nicer than others. For example everyone might have a card in a red shiny envelope whereas mine are all white envelopes. I tend to get the smaller cards too. Similar to what my dc would hand out at primary school.

I'm starting to take it personally, like people don't like me very much. I make sure I write a card for everyone and the cards are all the same.

Anyone reckon they know why this might be? Or do you only give cards to people you like?

I do only give cards to people I have relationships with. Like isn't the right word. But not to people I don't know.

When do you send your cards? Maybe get in first and have memorable cards if this bothers you. It's not something I would notice.

It's hard not to notice when they are spread across a big table every time you walk in the staff room.

I know everyone there and make efforts to talk when I see someone. To my face everyone seems friendly.

I think it's bizarre that your colleagues let their cards pile up like a little popularity contest....which is what this is and is the reason you feel a bit crap about it. I think you are asking why this might be but you know why, you obviously have colleagues rather than friends at work and some of those colleagues are actually friends with each other too. Do you really care how much they like you though? Do you socialise with them outside of work?

Just take them home with you everyday then you won't get a chance to see. Please don't overthink it, there are so many worse things ❤️

It does look like less people writing cards to you. Could it be due to actual nature of your job e.g you are less known in other departments, work in a smaller team ? Or there are a lot of young people in your team who presumably write cards less or less focused on them? Or maybe you’ve got more people who are not Christians?
Also are you somehow different from others at your place of work?Being from a different social background or the only single person or the only person not from UK etc usually affects your relationship at the workplace. So you might be in good working relationship with people but they always have this sort of barrier with you and won’t let you in closer because you are different. Xmas cards usually reflect this.
