Im uninspired. I love wrapping but can't find any paper I really like this year. Definitely want paper not fabric wraps or gift bags . Anyone got any inspiration or seen anything lovely?

What does everyone do with the paper from previous years presents if you don’t recycle it? Couldn’t just bin perfectly useable paper.

Nonplusultra · 22/11/2023 05:05

I’m using up all the leftover rolls this year, and it’s been really helped by the terrible wrapping paper options this year. I have a use it up year every four or five years when I need a clear out.

But I like a paper theme. In the last few years I’ve had

snowy town houses in pale blues and greys with silver/white/blue/grey ribbon

1980s vintage santa and elves - ribbons didn’t look right so I made paper rosettes that year.

Brown paper with twine, and sprigs of rosemary (don’t - they shed), cinnamon sticks (don’t - they crack) and orange slices ( don’t - they stain)

Last year was a gorgeous holly berry print I found in a charity shop, supplemented with red and green kraft paper and velvet ribbon.

During covid I used some old maps and printed out vintage travel tickets as tags.

Card Factory have some lovely sets with co-ordinating gift bags so I've bought those for DDs gifts. Everyone else is getting last years left overs!

IShouldNotBeSurprised · 22/11/2023 05:34

When our kids were younger, the gifts for each were wrapped in different paper. A small wrapped gift in their stocking is what showed them which was their paper for that year. Other gifts were wrapped in various other papers.

I realized I'm not a huge fan of red and green, so for the last several years I bought papers that are predominantly blue. I love snowflakes, there are often quite a few other patterns to choose from as well. Other decorations are mostly silver and gold, lights are white or blue so it all ties together nicely.

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 22/11/2023 06:04

I love wrapping. I love planning the wrapping. You're my kind of person OP.
I've been really disappointed with this years offerings. I'm loving the PPs WHSmith paper.

I'm swaying away from glitter, have done the whole Kraft paper shebang... I'm going for rich, indulgent looking paper. If I can find any, need to check the woodland paper out in-store to see if I love it.
Also after some decent nutcracker paper, I bought some last year which I still love but can't find it despite many Google Lens attempts. I'm scared to use it again incase I use it all up!

Regarding all the questions about using up last years, I still have a few rolls. I keep it for the memories aswell as outside of family gifts that need wrapped. But my DC, niece/nephews, parents and most used delivery person get the most recent paper.

So far, I have the wooden snowflake name tags and some ribbon.

WaitingfortheTardis · 22/11/2023 06:04

I buy large rolls every few years and then use them until they've run out. No theme but I try to buy recyclable and fairly traditional colours. I choose one for adults that is a little less bright and then a more fun one for children.

ManchesterLu · 21/11/2023 22:28

My theme is grab the old rolls of wrapping paper from previous years, use them up, then buy more when it's gone.

I wish I was a good enough adult to have a theme. I dream of themes, but can't be bothered actually having one!

and also to avoid the use of birthday paper for wrapping at chrismas!! who the hell has the time to think about a wrapping theme???? jeezus¬¬

Wanttobeok · 22/11/2023 06:32

I think Jeezus would have loved a good themed wrapping session 🤷‍♀️

MotherofaToad · 22/11/2023 06:37

I wrap all stocking fillers in tissue paper and everyone in the family has their own colour of tissue paper so that the presents don't get muddled up. Everything else gets wrapped in whatever I can find!

jadey1991 · 22/11/2023 06:50

I don't have a theme, I use whatever wrapping I have or I see in the shop

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 22/11/2023 06:52

Only the odd present gets reused wrapping paper, I use cotton scarves or I make reusable drawstring bags to put presents in. I hate the waste from Christmas wrapping paper and strings.

D20 · 22/11/2023 08:06

Sorry that even in the Christmas section you are getting grief op. It’s perfectly obvious from the title what you were asking so what compels people to shit on other people happy place is anyones guess. Net result is still the same quantity of paper used so not sure why they’re so fussed.

I’m completely out this year so I’m going to take a trip to TKMaxx. My best two years were black kraft paper (Tesco clearance but not Christmas) with red velvet bows and dried orange theme tissue (M&S) in brown kraft bags. If i have part of a roll left that gets used for one family. If I have enough and school are asking for wrapping paper donations for their ‘gift shop’ I’ll pass it on to them.

I’m also a big fan of reusable gift bags.

PokeyLaFarge · 22/11/2023 08:11

Dc1 - polar bear wrapping paper (he was obsessed by them as a child)
Dc2 - silver and blue blingy paper
Dh - whatever is left over from last year! :)
Also many gift bags which get reused year after year
All paper is recyclable
I've gone for full your own paper crackers which is turning into a total faff

PokeyLaFarge · 22/11/2023 08:12

Oh and paper tape too ;)

I bought loads when there was a paper chase shutting down around 5/6 years ago and still have loads left. It was summer but the £5 Christmas rolls were 50p!

so my themes will be a continuation of that last 5 years haha

I miss Paperchase so much. I always got my cards there and bought tree decorations in the Jan sales, along with a million notebooks (I'm surprised I didn't keep the company afloat myself).

No wrapping theme as yet as I ate the presents Shock

LittleGreenDuck · 22/11/2023 08:19

Each child's Santa presents are wrapped in their own paper, for example one child will have the Gingerbread men paper, one the robins paper etc. but that's really so that I don't get muddled as to whose presents are whose, once they're wrapped!
Main gifts and everyone else's presents are wrapped in whatever I can find in Sainsbury's. However, it can NEVER be the same paper as the Santa presents. Or even last year's Santa presents. The kids will notice and will have questions.

16yr old DD just picked up some Lightning Mcqueen Xmas paper when we were last at the shop and has asked me to wrap her gifts in it. It was her favourite Disney film as a kid.

Oooh can you let me know where she got it from? I have a lightening McQueen obsessed 2 year old

MrsDotCotton · 22/11/2023 08:25

I used to absolutely LOVE wrapping up presents - now can't really be arsed. I do now realise I had a theme going as each person would have their presents wrapped in their paper as it were. A couple of years ago I invested in one of those long plastic Christmas paper storage boxes and was just saying to H "you need to bring that in from the garage rafters" as you don't have to go looking for what might be left in all corners of the house. I will be wrapping but have the big fabric Santa's bags to put everything in as they are bulky items this year. May not even wrap if I can't be bothered. No little people here as yet sadly.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 22/11/2023 08:36

I hate wrapping so I mostly use gift bags, accumulated and recycled over many years. I bought a roll end of about 10 metres of Christmas fabric with the idea of sewing gift bags too. That was about 5 years ago and it’s still in the drawer. One day 😂.

I've always had a sort of theme in that DS’s presents went in red paper or bags and DD’s in pink/purple/sparkly unicorn type. That’s to make my life easy though as I hate gift tags too so it saved labelling them.

Overall I think my theme is ‘lazy’.

ButtonDownBev · 22/11/2023 08:36

I LOVE beautiful wrapping but hate sticking to one theme as my favourite bit is seeing the mishmash of different looking presents under the tree rather than everything matching. So I buy 2/3 rolls of whatever I think is pretty and I have different bits of ribbon I reuse each year, and I always use up what I bought the previous year. It's all beautiful wrapping paper but it isn't just sticking to one theme.

I loved their baubles!
I haven’t even bought any presents yet 😂

Fran2023 · 22/11/2023 08:38

Using up left over wrapping, brown paper and/or newspaper (we read the FT so it is even nicer.)

TheLastParty · 22/11/2023 08:44

I've been thinking about saving the paper from who gives a crap toilet rolls. They have Christmas themed ones as well. Here

Beaverbridge · 22/11/2023 08:50

I'm another one who bought loads from Wilkos sale about 5 years ago. Packs of 3 down to 50p, still using them up. Also gift bags that have been reused in good nick!.
