Im uninspired. I love wrapping but can't find any paper I really like this year. Definitely want paper not fabric wraps or gift bags . Anyone got any inspiration or seen anything lovely?

I am reusing paper from previous years. I have Brussel sprouts, the nutcracker and a lovely woodland one.

I haven't seen anything I like this year and the quality seems questionable with everything being super thin.

RoseMartha · 21/11/2023 23:01

No theme. I buy a pack of wrapping sheets in the sale from the garden centre ( that I would not buy full price), and then use them the following Christmas. I do have some roll wrap that is a couple of years old which I keep for large items and the shoe box thing. But to be honest I am a the point now with no young kids to buy for that most gifts are on the smaller side.

I cut up cards from the previous year for tags but the sheet pack usually comes with tags as well.

Wanttobeok · 21/11/2023 23:01

OP I think you are my person 😅

I have a theme every year but I'm struggling this year.

In the past I've done brown paper and green/red raffia ribbon which made me feel eco friendly and looked nice but you can't beat a bit of sparkle at Christmas!

Last year I did a really dark purple tissue paper (double layered obvs) and silver raffia ribbon. That looked good.

A few years ago I started an AIBU thread about how much I'd spent on wrapping paper...hand printed sheets from Not on the High Street. I was basically the devil according to that thread and should have given the paper, the money I spent on it and my Christmas Dinner to charity, but the paper was so pretty!

The only thing I've found so far this year that I like is from Next. Like a green and gold forest theme.

Just to piss people off even more, this is only for family presents...DS presents have to be wrapped in a different paper otherwise he will know Santa didn't bring them...he's 12 and figured it out years ago but still 🤣

Offleyhoo · 21/11/2023 23:01

I try and use papers in traditional colours, rather than say pink or turquoise, but that's it really.

fourelementary · 21/11/2023 23:03

Whilst I don’t do themes as such- I do choose different paper for different people. The kids get different ones- littlest gets gingerbread men somewhere in their pattern as they are ginger! Eldest gets the most babyish as he’s the eldest so now likes that- last year was Spider-Man this year is Disney Cars. Middle girls get a similar theme… this year one has holly and ivy with a sort of sage colour and the other has similar colour but people walking dogs and sledging etc…
Other family- pink penguins for toddler girl, Xmas dinosaurs for young boy… candy canes for grown up female relatives… navy with stars for grown up males…

I have boxes that are wrapped in authentic 1970/80s paper that I bring out as decoration as I love them so much for the nostalgia factor. 1980s Xmas would be a great theme to be able to deck a whole room out in…

Getting whatever wrapping paper we have left from last year down from the attic supplemented by some new bows from the pound shop.

Wanttobeok · 21/11/2023 23:05

These are the two from next that are OK but not really inspiring me

It’s always gold( okay, very occasionally silver).

We have frankincense and myrrh, too.

thaegumathteth · 21/11/2023 23:08

For years I've been using up stuff and now this year I got to buy new!

I'm trying to be budget friendly and sustainable so most presents are in decorated brown paper or white paper with some kind of traditional design on. Candy stripes paper too and then more garish stuff for the kids stockings. even though they are teenagers and don't need me to wrap stuff differently from Santa

I have some jingle bells to put on some paper twine too and some paper washi tape.

Wanttobeok · 21/11/2023 23:11

The White company have some nice stuff too. Inspired by them I may go for a Champagne/dark green theme this year

TheChosenTwo · 21/11/2023 23:12

I’ve got some lovely navy blue with bronze stars and a copper wired ribbon which I use for some of the nicer presents. Other than that, anything goes. I’d like tastefully decorated presents but no one else uses themes and we end up with all sorts of gaudy mismatched offerings under the tree come Christmas Day from family (I love gaudy mismstched Christmas stuff - it’s my whole tree theme 😂 so I don’t mean this rudely!), by the time we’ve swapped presents there is such an array!
I do however on Christmas Eve pull everything out, give it all a hoover and one last watering and then put everything back with my favourite wrapped ones at the front!!

5YearsLeft · 21/11/2023 23:28

I mean, our rapping theme is usually Snoop Dogg’s “Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto.” I suppose for the younger kids, we might add Lil Nas X’s “Holiday,” so they don’t give us crap for only having ‘old’ (classic!) music.

Much like @SpringIntoChaos , I was today years old when I discovered wrapping themes existed.

NiceViper · 21/11/2023 22:53

My "theme" is, as always, re-using salvaged wrapping from previous years. So eclectic, colourful, celebrational.

I know that might come across as a bit po-faced, but it would be a shame if pretty paper in perfect condition were not re-used.

I know what you mean about po-faced as I worry I will come across that way too. But we’ve really got to get real about things like this. When you think of the mountains of paper which gets put in landfill every Christmas because it is non-recyclable, it is such a pointless waste. Fortunately many manufacturers are coming up with recyclable stuff now, but then there’s also all the sellotape, glittery ribbons etc. Things are getting better, but, as usual, the eco-friendly options are often not the cheapest option, and that is an issue too as many people just can’t afford to go that route. 😔

BaublesAndGlitter · 21/11/2023 23:37

I don't have a theme aside from using Kraft paper. I have a collection from all over the place with various patterns. A year or so ago I came stumbled on some lovely ones in a charity shop that looked very vintage-esque so I bought quite a few.

My only wrapping rule (which I expect to be considered as breaking my rules) is that if I'm giving someone more than one gift, they have to have different but complimentary paper (so one with a Christmas tree and Santa print and the other a plain or candy striped print).

I don't usually add extras such as ribbon or bells but I found some red and white string the other day so may try and use that this year Xmas Smile

BaublesAndGlitter · 21/11/2023 23:39

Considered to be breaking mn rules not my rules Blush

MrsDotCotton · 21/11/2023 23:42

I saw this title and it reminded me the other day someone asked me what colour theme my tree was this year! I told her it is my usual colours which are traditional and have accumulated over the years. Tell me - what do people who do a complete theme on their tree do with last year's stuff? Do they sell it on? Do they store? It all sounds very wasteful and commercial - no memories.

Buggerthislove · 21/11/2023 23:44

Snowflakes as usual, found a lovely one with a blue background from poundland of all places.

BaublesAndGlitter · 21/11/2023 23:48

@MrsDotCotton my auntie has a few tree themes in her attic. She decides which 2 she wants this year, gets them down and leaves the others up there.

She's been doing it for years so most themes have a mix of new, homemade and meaningful decorations now.

I can never decide if she's a genius or bonkers, but I do know she thinks everyone is silly for repeating the same decorations over and over.

CheersToMe · 21/11/2023 23:52

I buy in the sales, so looking forward to pulling out whatever I bought. I mean, I must've liked it enough to buy it...vaguely recollect it being blue.

Also bought crackers and cards, so, again, curious to see what I've got.

Wanttobeok · 21/11/2023 23:57

My Christmas tree has a theme, or colour scheme, but it's been the same one for the last 8 years so I don't know if that makes me more or less of a twat according to MN

IHatePretentiousness · 22/11/2023 02:21

Theme?

RichPetunia · 22/11/2023 02:32

I've never heard of having a wrapping theme 🤣 🤣. Same as people above - use leftovers from previous years. Then buy more cheap paper as the good quality thick stuff doesn't fold well.

Ah, but do you iron it?

My theme is get it done whatever way possible. 37 weeks pregnant and the Tin foil is looking good to me now.

Sholkedabemus · 22/11/2023 03:10

My theme this year and every year is to just get the wrapping done. I really don’t enjoy it.
