YA Book Series Recommendations (Boys)

Hi,

DS loves a good book and will be 14 at Xmas. Rather than one-off book recommendations do you have any series ie/ 3+ book sets? His ASN means he really gets into a series and will often re-read them over and over :) Have the usual Alex Rider, Percy Jackson ones, Inheritance Games, LOTR, Hunger Games and so forth but wondering if I have missed any hidden gems now he's a bit older. I usually go to those book sites like www.books2door.com etc.

Thanks in advance!

The Gone series?

Forgottenmyphone · 20/11/2023 11:23

Maze Runner

If he enjoyed Percy Jackson, has he read all of the follow on series? Heroes of Olympus? The trials of Apollo? There was a new book released earlier this year, the chalice of the gods

The unwind series is phenomenal and even as an adult had me enraptured and gave me chills!!

Maze runner is also brilliant esp the first one. The do go a bit downhill from there.

SummerLightning · 20/11/2023 11:37

Also scythe series by the same author as unwind

I’d second the Gone series and Maze Runner, there’s obviously the others by Rick Riordian (Magnus Chase etc) is he into any LitRpg novels? More niche as a genre but it’s about adventurers that get stuck in game environments. Series like Dungeon Crawler Carl, Awaken Online, He Who Fights with monsters all great series.

Ready Player one and Ready Player 2 are a great pair of books.
Red Rising is a good dystopian series, Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, Marie Lu Legend series, have you thought about a couple of classics like 1984 or Fahrenheit 451 or a brave new world?

Graceling series I think is good for that age and Uglies.

The Enemy series by Charlie Higson. Rick Riordan's earlier series are good. My son loved them, but said the later series were not as good and we're 'preachy'.

The Divergent book series are excellent! By Veronica Roth. The trilogy is set in the future in a dystopian society that is divided into 5 factions. Society defines its members by their social and personality affiliations. I highly recommend!

Thanks! Will get stuck in and check these out! He enjoyed Charlie Higson's Bodyguard series.

I love the excitement of finding a new series he will enjoy, much appreciated!

Google also threw up these if anyone had read them (I couldn't get clear confirmation on recommended age for some of them)

  • Mitch Rapp Series
  • Renegades
  • Edge Chronicles
  • Mortal Engines Collection
  • Rangers Apprentice
  • Brotherband Chronicles
  • School for Good and Evil
  • Expanse Series
  • Red Eye Series
  • Secrets of Immortal Nicholas Flamel

I see that Michael Grant's GONE series is on lowplex books! He has read the Percy Jackson follow on books.

Off down a rabbit hole!

Mortal engines is fun, my 14 year old likes them
Expanse is an adult space opera type series - might be suitable, they are good, quite a lot of characters and strands to keep track of though. I don't think my 14 year old would have the concentration but he's not the most committed reader!
