Ideas for a 14 year old boy

My son doesn't know what he wants and I have for him is a crimpit and stocking bits.
He is 14, in a wheelchair, not interested by clothes, sports or anything really. He listens to music on Spotify (mainly tenacious xxxx and people like that). He is quite low mentally and we are working on that. He doesn't want to go anywhere except for the gym.
Any ideas of a gift that will put a smile on his face? He has all the normal tech for a boy of his age.

Digital DJ decks?

frozendaisy · 19/11/2023 08:15

Or a really good keyboard to play/create music attached to computer

Theblackdogagain · 19/11/2023 08:19

Thank you for your suggestions, I'll look into the dj decks, he's not into playing music but that's not a bad shout, it's worth a chat with him.

Concert tickets?

Bectoria2006 · 19/11/2023 08:25

Love the DJ decks idea.

If he likes going to the gym could you buy him some activewear or gym accessories?

My 14 year old still loves a Lego set. Last year we got him a gaming chair.

How much are you looking to spend?

Mini fridge
Games console
Bluetooth speaker

Lego
Power bank

A good book - sometimes non fiction can be a winner at this age

I'm just going to share my list for my ds and you can see if anything gels!

  • weird Japanese sweets
  • random ramen flavour noodles
  • bottle of ted baker aftershave
  • lego succulents set
  • burnt orange duvet set (his request!)
  • big bang theory tshirt
  • set of 50 magic trick cards
  • rugby socks
  • pair of Edward munch socks
  • some new nice boxers
  • fancy shower gel

That's where I've got to...
may also see if there's a good board game- then will probably stop!

Theblackdogagain · 19/11/2023 08:43

Thanks
Unfortunately anything with his hands is out because he has poor motor control, he has a games console, headphones etc and he couldn't sit in a gaming chair.
We are getting an extension for a new room for him do maybe lights or something in anticipation for that but will have to stay boxed up for months .
I'll look into tickets for things as he used to like going to shows but now hates travelling into London.

Would he like band merch like t-shirts or posters for his room?

American snacks and drinks have always been declared amazing by DS.

ThatshallotBaby · 19/11/2023 08:48

Something that has a remote control? I got ds a remote control poo one year, but there are lots of different choices.
Would you rather? book, these can be good conversation starters.
Guiness world records book. T shirt with his favourite band on.
What does he like eating/drinking?

Theblackdogagain · 19/11/2023 08:55

So thanks for the band merch recommendation, all the singers he likes are dead (gun shot wounds mainly) but there seems to be Hoodies and t shirts so that's a good shout.
I've got him a box of American sweets so forgot about that

Sorry your ds is having a hard time, just to say mine was similar at this age but he's 17 now and really turned a corner.
Anyway how about tickets to see a comedian, my ds has enjoyed that for a few years.
Mine also enjoys escape rooms, maybe a voucher for that especially if he isn't good with crowds also seems good for his confidence when he solved the clues!

anon2134 · 19/11/2023 09:12

Snack box subscription, smelly set, theatre tickets, outdoor adventure type places (yes they're adaptable to his chair) vouchers for Costa/meal out, gym clothes, new gym membership, personal trainer sessions, band merch.

Snack box subscriptions are fab, I got dh one and it's different countries every month. I bought ds a Korean snack box from Etsy. It's enormous with a huge amount of varied snacks in it.

Theblackdogagain · 19/11/2023 09:51

Thank you for some great ideas, it's sparked conversation and he wants posters for his new room, new headphones (he does seem to go through them) and a surprise win is a trip to see disney on ice which involves public transport through London! That really will be a win and build his confidence

Dc's fave gift last year was a star projector thing (he's also 14). It's mesmerising! He finds it calming. It's got Bluetooth so you can play music through it too.
