I'm after a gift for a new baby in the family and would like to buy a set.. the gift boxed type.

I have no idea what authors or stories are good.. could anyone make a suggestion please?

I know that these are not boxed but they're great books for little ones with flaps to involve them. In my experience you only throw the boxes out anyway as they are awkward to store and kids can't get them out or back in independently.

That’s not my…. range are good for little ones. You can get them in sets of 2 or 3 sets or a box with a book and matching toy.

This is my go-to for boxed babies' books.
4 high-contrast board books, with photos of real faces. They tend to return to them again and again well into toddlerhood.

If newborn age, this type of book is a winner (not a boxset, though, so you could put your own selection together).

With black and white photos of a wide variety of faces and chic, high-contrast design, this series makes for a stylish, inclusive, lasting gift.

The suggestions so far are great for a newborn. If you're looking for books that will be read and loved for a few years, I suggest Julia Donaldson in board book format. Our JD books have been very well loved. And they're fun for parents to read which is important!

A Dr Seuss book set is a lovely gift and will last years.

I love the Baby Catalogue too

You can get a lovely 2 volume version of Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass in a box.
