What are you buying for your small toddlers & a baby?

Just that.

I have an almost 2 year old girl.

So far:

• play kitchen with all the utensils etc
• baby Annabelle doll & pram
• paintings & crafts
• activity table

I think we are pretty much set to be honest. She will also get a new set of PJS and her little Christmas Eve box and a new outfit.

Does anyone also have small babies? I'm stuck on what to get. So far just a play mat & a little dancing crab but she's clueless 😂 maybe some teething toys and sensory toys?

Thank you!

My 3 year old son so far has a leapfrog pad and some books to go in it and an octoray (a toy from octonauts, it's all he wants!) We will get him other little bits like play dough etc
My 18 month old so far has a teletubbies phone, he's actually a lot harder to get for as he couldn't care less about toys!
But what you got your almost 2 year old sounds absolutely fine

NuffSaidSam · 17/11/2023 18:17

Sounds like plenty for the 2 year old and I wouldn't worry too much about the baby unless there is anything they need (assuming you have loads of baby stuff from the older sibling?).

With Christmas, start as small as possible. You can always get more year on year, but it's very hard to start getting them less. At these tiny ages they're not expecting huge piles of presents. They'll be completely happy with a few bits.

NotFastButFurious · 17/11/2023 18:24

Babies…..their own plate, bowl, beaker and cutlery set.
hooded bath towels and bath toys
books
a backpack for when they start nursery / childminder (if they’ll be going)
stacking cups
Shape sorting cube

For 4 month old DS I’m getting a nice weaning set, a small grimms rainbow and a cuddly toy. Am stuck on the stocking a bit- so far have dummies and bibs? Wouldn’t bother but Santa needs to keep up appearances for his big sister!

What about a cuddly toy? You should look into this, I got this for our 4 month old.

We have a 4yo and 7 month old, the 4yo is all set she even wrote her own list this year but I feel like we've already got a lot of things for the baby that were my eldest's. I've just got practical things really like pjs in the next size, cutlery and a cup, sleeping bags, a few sensory toys. We've got DDs old activity table in the loft so I'm going to get that down and put a bow on it cos our 4yo won't remember it anyway so won't question it.

HangingStars · 17/11/2023 19:11

For my youngest’s first Christmas, I gave her loads of bits that I’d put away after the older ones had outgrown them, like happy land bus, sticklebricks, etc - I guess your eldest isn’t that much older though so may not help.

Does she have a musical/projector light show thing? Mine have all loved them as babies.

PurBal · 17/11/2023 19:15

For the baby (6mo) we’re getting a puzzle with his name on (not especially unusual name but a lot of the “things with names on” don’t have his but do have my eldest), for the toddler (2.5yo) we’re getting him a farm and tractor. Only one present each and then some stocking fillers, baby will just be weaning food, toddler includes bubbles and slinky.

PurBal · 17/11/2023 19:16

I lie: the baby’s stocking will include a bath book and some sensory scarves.

NotFastButFurious · 17/11/2023 19:27

Baby stocking ideas: vests, socks or tights / leggings, board book, a hat, one of those soft toy heads with a blanket bit attached, first toothbrush, pack of wet wipes (Santa is very practical!!)

Sellingbedtime · 17/11/2023 19:32

I'm pretty stumped on what to get my 14 month old. He is my youngest so i feel like there is nothing "new" to get him. So at this rate it will be tommee tippee sippy cups, a long sleeve sleep sack and a lunch box to take to the childminders, what a lucky boy!

This is fantastic. I was stuck for stockings. Thank you 💐

What about this? Or something similar?

I’ve got two of similar ages to you. We have a big gift already for our toddler so trying not to go overboard with the little things but want him to have enough to open. For the baby I’ve got her one nice wooden toy so far and one of those toys that clips onto a bar to play with. For the rest of her stuff I think I’m just going to think of anything I will need to buy in the next 6 months so might get a nice mori bigger sized sleeping bag with her name on it if there’s any discounts on, the plates/cups etc for weaning, stacking cups, some better bath toys as my toddlers are a bit done now and I’m now going to get the dancing crab too! 😂

Sellingbedtime · 17/11/2023 20:07

@justanothermanicmonday1 yes his main present is probably going to be something fidgety! 😆
The Melissa & Doug latch board is a contender.

My daughter will be 11 and a half months old at Christmas and I've gone a bit heavy on the presents (she's a double rainbow baby and we haven't felt able to "do Christmas" for 5 years). She's got a toy steering wheel, some Clemmy blocks and pyjamas with dressing gown. For the stocking she has two board books (charity shop), small mega bloks starter kit (charity shop), a disco light (she loved my cousin's one) and some basic outfits for nursery.

Luckily her birthday is two weeks later so some presents have been stored for that (Baby Einstein drums, shape sorter, activity cube (charity shop) and Mega bloks car (charity shop)).

Hopefully I can reign myself in going forward.

Goldbar · 17/11/2023 20:14

Last year, we gave the baby some baby clothes in the next size up, a couple of board books, a Christmas bath duck, some baby massage oil, a lameze hanging toy and one of those water play mats for tummy time.

It was more for our older one than the baby. The 5yo loved "helping" the baby open their presents (and also loved getting more than the baby 😂!)

Never explain. Our babies deserve to be spoiled. Well I think so anyway.congratulations on your beautiful rainbow 🌈💐

So many great ideas. Thank you.

Love the recommendations for the baby for the weaning cutlery set, blocks and stacking cups.

I went to Smyths with my 10 month old the other day and basically just bought everything that he smiled at 🤣 I was picking up things I thought he’d like and some got a 😐 and some got a 😃

I am also getting him this talking teddy thing which was a big hit with my son when he was a baby, also a tunnel, scuttle bug and bath toys. I tried to get things that may seem a bit too old for him now but that he will grow into over the next year, he is 1 the week after Christmas so it’s a long time to wait for more toys if he gets only things that suit him now.

Jk987 · 17/11/2023 20:40

Honestly don't worry about small children especially if they're under 3. Just a few things to unwrap and they'll be over the moon. A tub of slime, a soft toy, not much else. They have absolutely no concept of value.

newtovanlife · 17/11/2023 20:43

Almost 2 year old is getting a play kitchen with wooden food and some musical instruments. Then a balance bike for their birthday. Last year we got a ball pit - it's played with every day so hoping the kitchen is the same!

Disneyland2022 · 17/11/2023 21:27

Sorry to gatecrash but I need ideas for a 2 year old boy, pretty please? 💡

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 17/11/2023 21:34

A tent/den was the absolute most used thing for our two yr old. It was a gift from my brother to him and he absolutely loved it. Not expensive from amazon

AlifeOfPumpkinSpice · 17/11/2023 21:42

I've bought a tonies box for my 15 month old, I plan for it to grow with him and he'll hopefully have it for years. He's also got a vtech firetruck(he kind of picked it himself😅) and a couple of wooden/educational toys.
