Just looking for ideas for stocking fillers for DC5. They already love Dobble, Uno & Go Fish. Can anyone recommend something along these lines that is a hit for a 5 year old.

Thank you

Elf snap/ playing cards! (I know that The Works sell them). You’ve already mentioned double and go fish which would have been my next go to games.

My 4 year old like top trumps.

Do they have a junior version of these? I think my 4 year old would also like them but I’ve only seen the more ‘grown up’ versions which he wouldn’t be able to read.

I’m looking at where’s Wally card game for my six year old!

Forgottenmyphone · 16/11/2023 13:34

@PrudeyTwoShoes Yes they do. We’ve got a Gruffalo one and a Dinosaur Roar version.

ScarboroughHair · 16/11/2023 13:36

@PrudeyTwoShoes a lot of them are colour-coded so your child can say the category colour rather than having to read the word.

Djeco do great card games - we had Sardines where you have to spot similarities - can be adapted for different ages but definitely 5 and up. Also, not exactly a card game but Bus Stop was a great favourite - easy counting practice and we had names and identities for all the passengers

Dino dump

Newuser75 · 16/11/2023 13:52

@PrudeyTwoShoes yes there are junior top trumps.

Mine have the regular ones but we do give them a bit of a hand with the reading side.

TheGreatHat · 16/11/2023 13:52

Taco cat goat cheese pizza is the best card game I have ever played!

Knackeredhamster · 16/11/2023 13:57

Gosh I've just remembered a card game I had and loved as a little kid called Wot!

Not sure it's still available

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/11/2023 14:06

I like djeco games

Dorriethelittlewitch · 17/11/2023 00:01

Schoko Hexe! It's a ravensburger card game which involves trying to find all the ingredients to make chocolate whilst avoiding those pesky chocolate witches.

Basically when its your turn, you choose how many cards you take/turn over. Do you push your luck and keep going or do you stop and bank your ingredients...

We like it so much we have 2 copies, one in the house and one in the car. It's usually quite cheap on Amazon.

A junior version of top trumps is just War, played with ordinary cards

It's really good for them when they 3/4/5+ as it can grow with them.
So things like for like, turn taking , shape recognition, colour recognition, number recognition,l to begin with, then counting the shapes, recognition of groups of symbols and knowing there are 3 diamonds without physically pointing, working out if 8 is bigger than 5, getting them to work out the difference etc. you can then also add I. "advanced" rules as they get older, so, with my DS , we used to do "one away from war" if the cards were (say) 7 and 8, the person who had a 7 could bring in reinforcements (an extra card) and add the score, then the 8 player has a chance too. They weigh up risk/benefits/chances of winning etc.
